Hmm...I had to do a lot of research on this one. But I think you can buy it at the dealer. Don't take my word for it, but that is where I would look first. Just a suggestion. Don't know about price though. I guess you're trying to find it cheaper.

i thought that all c classes already come with dimming rear view mirror and left side mirror. are you saying that your mirror is non-dimming?
i'd like to put a dimming mirror for my the other car A4; so i'd like to know where to get a MB dimming mirror...(rear view) and how much

Its not plug in play, is it?! There is wiring that must go through the car ceiling...the side mirror uses the same sensor as the rear view...well, I'm guessing it does.

Yes it has wiring it is not that easy unless you get one from the junk yard from another type of car.

It's true that the mirror is powered, but that could be it for inter-connectedness. I suspect it is something simple like a sensor and an LCD surface that only activates when the light level hitting it is great enough. If that's true, he only needs to get a power source to it. I do agree that for an experiment like this on what is probably a very dear MB part, the salvage yard is the best bet.

Out Of Control!!
I'd go to VWVortex or Audiworld, and ask there. See what people have done to their Audis before you ask a bunch of MB people what to do with your A4. I'd think that you'd get a lot of helpful info from them, instead of guesswork.
My 2 cents.

That is not true. The only sensor for the autodimming mirrors on Mercedes' is the one in the interior rearview mirror. It controls the dimming of the side mirrors. Therefore, they must all be wired together.Originally posted by jlm

yes, i've looked some of the tech sections from audiworld. the reason why i want to get the MB mirror is i like the MB mirror more than the OEM audi mirror. for my knowledge, i only have to get a power and a ground wire from an empty fuse box and it should get the mirror working. since the senor is built in the mirror and it'll control the dimming function as the light hits the mirror. i guess i'm calling MB dealer and ask for part quotes..hopefully the price wont be super crazy.
i know the OEM audi +02' auto dimming with digital compass costs like about $220 US or around $350 CND....but i wish to get it a lot less.

In the US Donnelley (http://www.donnelly.com/shopdonnelly/default.asp ) makes the mirrors for most mfrs. I bought a dimming/compass with down firing map lights for $180 a few years ago and installed it in my wife's Toyo Sienna. Last week we took the Toyo back and got a Ford Exploder. Anyhow, I liked the mirror I had in the Toyo better so tried swapping them. Lo and behold. same plugs and both made by donnelly.
Look on ebay maybe you can get a good deal on one like I did.
I for one, though, would like to put in the Merc mirror into the exploder because of the homelink buttons. So if anyone has a lead on these for the Merc I'd like to know.
Thanks
