V1 is my favorite. tells you where the signal is coming from. New retail is like 400 though. It will help prevent tickets a lot of the time, but not all the time. It is NOT a COP detector. It is a RADAR detector. Furthermore, if you are tagged with laser, its over. Its too late. And bike cops generally use laser.

If you want to own a Mercedes and you want to drive fast, suck it up. Expensive repairs+premium gas+speeding tickets= the trinity of out of pocket expenses for us. You are driving a car that almost every cop in America wants and can't have. You are a target, bro!

Dude, driving too fast = you will get a ticket if caught. Radar detector = smart speeding. Whenever I speed, I'm always scanning up ahead and behind for cops. Just pay more attention. Don't blame others for your mistake, it makes people think you're ignorant. Sure getting a ticket hurts your "pride" (makes me feel dumb), but it was your decision to drive faster than the legal limit. If you're not ready to pay for a ticket, then stay in the right hand lane!

While I know some of you guys are trying to be funny (kirax2 being one of them) and some of you are trying to be helpful (Moviela), this guy...well...the nice way to put this is that he's not quite grown up yet. The plain way to say it is that he's still an effing child.

Telling him how to get out of a ticket so he can justify that it was not his fault != a good idea.

Telling him to deploy his parking brake to slow down (while highly amusing to those of us who know what we're doing) != a good idea.

Telling this guy he's a "target" and therefore feeding his delusion that he's always right != a good idea.

Problem is, with this guy, he might take you seriously. Let him get screwed. One less crappy driver on the road.

And "smart speeding?" Don't even let me get started on that one. Some people can't even drive correctly at 5 mph, an excellent example of which evidenced just yesterday by some idiot at my office who smashed his passenger door into a parking structure post that's twice as big as most people. Not only did he smash the door into it, he revved his engine and hit it hard. You want inattentive, irresponsible people like that to "smartly speed?"

And if you think I'm pulling that example out of my rear end, I'll gladly get you pictures of both the post and the door. It's a nice $500+ repair job for whomever owns the thing.

I've been driving for nearly 20 years and have never gotten a speeding ticket. Ever! And I haven't been driving invisible cars either: had a Buick Regal T-Type (similar to the Grand National, but just not all black), and prior to my C230, I had a bright red Ford Probe GT that looks like it's speeding when standing still. I'm not asking for any medals, but rather just trying to make a point that you have to be careful/prudent when driving, and keep both eyes open. Not just for cops, but for other potential issues like pedestrians, other vehicles, blind spots, etc. I'm not an old timer, and can't claim I've never speeded (I've hit 147mph in the Probe on I-95 in Mass, plus 120+ occasionally in the C230), but I've been careful and watchful when I've done so.

I too am getting the out.

No, I don't but, since It's not my job to judge or enforce who is on the road in the first place, I say speeding with a radar detector is "smart speeding". (If the whole purpose is to avoid getting a ticket). I mean, the very same laws that guarantee our freedoms in this country also allow irresponsible people access to all kinds of dangerous things (speeding in 3600 lbs. cars included). I don't want inattentive, irresponsible people driving period, but that doesn't stop them from doing it. I think it's safe to assume that most advice (including my own) on this forum, regarding speeding, is meant for responsible drivers. Unless it was krisv420, don't see how some idiot's parking mistake has anything to do with this argument. All it proves is that you recently witnessed an "inattentive, irresponsible" driver. Big deal, I'm sure we all see our fair share of such instances daily. In conclusion, I gather you have a pronounced aversion to speeding. Thats fine, to each their own. But I just don't see the point in calling krisv420 a child and berating him for speeding and being a "crappy driver". Sure he had an accident and he just got a speeding ticket. Obviously this doesn't speak for his driving record, but that being said, let the man do his own thing. If someone wants to break laws, let them deal with the consequences.

Cupcake...I don't know about this "hating thing." You are obviously a self important suburbian twank who has it coming. Did you get this "hater" word from the latest rap album?

You had an accident some weeks ago, now you get a speeding ticket. It is simple. SLOW DOWN JERKOFF.

Sugar muffin,
First off, since when does a person's vocabulary choice determine whether or not someone "has it coming"? That's an incredibly ignorant thing to say. What if he did get the word from a rap album, so what? I bet you "tootie fruitie" from a Little Richard album or whatever you listen to. Just because someone decides to use more socially "hip" words doesn't necessarily make them any more deserving of "having it coming" (By which I assume you mean the accident and ticket Krisv420 recieved, which I don't understand since I don't see why you think anybody "deserves" to have an accident.)

On a sidenote, here is the definition for "hater" according to Urban Dictionary:

Hater

One who either verbally and/or physically inhibits another individual's game or mode of operation primarily due to jealousy, envy, animosity, bitterness, resentment, and contempt. A hater will exibit either one or all of the aformentioned traits. A hater will usually smile in your face and hate behind your back.

Oh and what the hell is a "twank"? Is that something you picked up from AARP newsletter or something?

Secondly, unless I'm missing something here, we don't even know if the accident was even a result of Krisv420 speeding. Regardless, calling someone names obviously only further reinforces the ignorance of the statement you made earlier, ie. makes you sound like a grouchy neighbor telling the kids to keep it down. Now, I'm no bleeding heart, and certaintly not someone to flinch at every argument made or slander thrown, however when a thread that (I assume) originally started as a friendly discussion, turns into a completely misconstrued argument that results in name calling...

Don't mention the pro gun lobby
