It certainly matters - you can't shroud the flame front - I will post correct length tomorrow by measuring the darn things - OE Bosch

Just replaced mine w/ Bosch bought from AutohausAZ. If you go to the Bosch Auto website it has a part finder for your specific model. I went with the FR-6-MPPR332's. Had lots of oil in cyclinder 1. Just got an oil change and seems like they overfilled (won't ever go to that place again). Cylinder 2 had a bit probably from same cause. Also changed the fuel filter. Did all this 'cause the wife got a CEL while driving to work. Stealership wanted about half my years salary to do all of the above along with downstream oxygen sensor. Started doing research on this forum and $200 later, she PURRED! The C230 purred too.

Unless that money is just burning a hole in your pocket and you wanna give it to the stealership then be my guest, but this is seriously a very easy thing to do.

So I've been searching around how to do a spark plug replacement on my '03 C230 Kompressor (M271) and I've seen people use a special spark plug removal tool for our motors, along with the M112, and other motors. Then I read through this thread seeing some people just used a inverted torx with a really long ratchet extension. I just wanted to clear things up...is it recommended to buy this "special spark plug removal" part from MB or can I just use that Torx E8 bit?
Walking through this all I'll need are:
1) x4 Bosch FR-6-MPP-332 spark plugs
2) Antiseize for the threads (isn't there something else that's also
recommended to be dabbed onto the spark plug?)
3) 7" Extension for ratchet to get deep into the head to get to the plugs
4) Whichever socket (from MB or Torx E8) to use
5) Elbow Grease
Am I missing anything? Sorry, I've never done a spark plug change before and I wanted to learn now and do this for myself. I'll take photos and try to make an attempt at a write-up for the M271 (since there are 2 write-up's sticky'd for the M112 only).
Thanks in advance guys!

So a question on the torque specs and use of anti-sieze ...
Toyota states 19 ft-lbs if you don't use anti-seize, and 11 ft-lbs if you do use anti-seize -- the concern being that anti-seize can allow you to overtighten the plugs. Do we have a similar issue with our engines, or is 18 ft-lbs good with or without anti-seize?
Thanks. John
