'05 230K Oil leak from top rear of engine
I never actually got to see the process and all it says on my paperwork is "improperly installed oil filter o-ring caused oil leak"
It can't hurt to take it apart, verify it is installed correctly, and then clean up the oil and drive it. If the leak returns you'll know you have a problem somewhere else. How many miles do you have again?
EDIT: Or it could be that during the oil change last time, when the filter was being changed, some oil dripped out. Depending on how much we were talking about, and whether or not it seemed to have been there a while. Again, just a thought. Hrm.

then again, we did get a third party extended warranty. $200 deductible doesn't sound so bad vs. a weekend of the car being down.

Im interested to see what comes of this..
As far as doing a head gasket. First you need a valve job gasket kit, about $100, that will have all the gaskets you need for the job. Then figure it's a 10-12 hour job for a trained mechanic, a lot shorter for an untrained one (you know, the guy with a lot of left over parts at the end
)
If you say it comes from the top, behind the engine cover, slightly to passenger side - chances are it is is that vacuum oil pump or whatever it is called.
I had mine fixed just before my warranty expired ($750 part) and was not surprised when the SA told me that this is a common and well known problem on the C-Class ... Those F***** lol
Good luck with it.

This post was not helpful to either party, the original poster or the new guy. Posting in this older thread proved he was using the search function - something not many do. Had he started his own thread, he would have been told to STFF.
So perhaps you should stop "policing" and start "helping"?

gasket, part# 271 - 238 - 01 - 80 . price 12.75
seal ring, part# 668 - 997 - 01 - 45 . price 2.70
as far as the third seal ring which sit between the vacuum pump and the lid, the dealership couldn't get a part for it. so im trying to match up the seal ring with a aftermarket one. still trying to find one. the parts had to be ordered so i let you know how it goes.
