Need help to choose right ATF for 722.6 ATF3403 vs ATF 3353 vs ATF 4134

Talking about nonsense, look what I found on other web site
http://www.club202.com/forums/showth...ain-the-tranny
should i drain the tranny?
And look what a member said about the oil change
"Not a good idea. USed tranny fluid still have friction (worn clutch) material in the fluid that helps it not slip as much. General rule of thumb when having trans problems is NOT to change the fluid. Fresh fluid is garantied to kill immediately a trans that is on its way out."
OK, now i´m completly lost!

If a transmission is worn out it's worn out.
I have 40 years experience in the oil industry. Changing fluid is always the best thing you can do.
We have recovered Benz transmissions on this forum that were so gummed up that they lost drive & they are still operating.

So if I decide not to flush, but I just drain the trans, then refill, drive 200 miles, drain again and replace filter and gasket, and finally refill. How many liters of the Fuchs Titan 4134 will I need? Sounds like I need 8L?
I don't have a infrared thermometer or a dipstick, so would I add 4 liters each time I drain?
I have a 05 c230k.
Thanks

You will probably need 9 quarts to get your level correct. A back to back change while not ideal is a reasonable compromise. Level is critical for proper performance.
You need to take it's temperature even if you use a 2 buck mercury thermometer on the side of the pan. Temperature makes a big difference to level.
If you don't want to buy a dipstick then make one.

Ok great! thanks, I'll make one. I saw rmeuropean has one for 60... I'm sure I can make one for less than 10 or even free if I have something at home.

Hi! i talked to my friend, who is owner of indy shop, specializing on imports and he didn't recommend using Shell 134. his words-first of all-it's not synthetic(probably why it's cheap, compared to rest of the fluids)
second-temp. operation is much lower. it might be ok for summer he said, but i wouldn't use it in winter.
i assume that the current top MB standard for ATF is 001-989-68-03-13
and it's fully synthetic(?)
http://www.rmeuropean.com/search.asp...d=001989680313
i would rather pay $5 per qt more and use stuff from link above than Shell
i'm wrong?
Thank you!

All 236.14 fluids are by definition semi-synthetic for additive miscibility reasons. The Shell product is the same quality as all others. There is only one approved formulation. Shell is not gouging & is overstocked in NA. Prices might ultimately rise.
Shell provides the new blue 236.15 fluid for the 722.9 Plus transmission which is not reverse compatible. It was a joint Shell/Afton development.

then this statement of the seller is simply false? Mercedes Full Synthetic : ATF 134

i'm very confused with all those ATF's. but at least it's looks like 001-989-68-03-13 is the latest and backwards comparable. i was looking to buy an ATF for another change(something cheaper than MB ),but i was lost in all this info. ended up buying this one-

It all depends on the definition of Group of base oil allowed to be called a synthetic. US permits a different definition to Europe & specifically Germany.
236.15 fluids (the latest Blue fluid) are not backward compatible. They are of considerably lower viscosity & specifically designed for the 722.9 Plus transmission only. Fitted from approx August 2010 production.
Read this for clarification.

Thank you Glyn for all the info posted in this thread. Was getting too frustrated and confused with all the mis-information out there to even try and do this myself. But I just successfully completed my first transmission oil change of any kind. Could not have done it without the assistance from here. Thanks!

Pleased you got it done. There is nothing to be frightened of. We have put as much data on this as possible in the Wiki & contributors like splinter & Johnand have provided invaluable & accurate guidance in their respective threads on this issue for 722.6 & 722.9 transmissions.
There are unfortunately some urban myths floating around.

Glyn, I have a 02 clk 320 w208 with a 722.6 transmission. As far as I know the fluid us original 236.10 spec. I want to fill using 4134, then after a few miles drain and fill again using 4134 till most if not all the old fluid is replaced. In your opinion, this us ok and won't hurt my vehicle. Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm new to mob and this forum.

Yes ~ that's absolutely fine. 236.14 fluid is now mandated by Benz for the 722.6 transmission.

Rather I make a new thread I thought to just ask here, my apologies if it was already mentioned:
My 2010 GL450, x164 production Oct/2009, says to use 001 989 68 03 13 which I have purchased from Amazon MB genuine dealer = 6L
I've read Yalin (within this post) that it's recommended to have it at 236.14. Upon getting the shipment it doesn't say if its 236.10 or 236.14. The listing however says 236.14 but upon calling the parts dept of a MB they also have 001 989 68 03 13 written and no way of knowing 236.10 or 236.14.
I'll only be changing the transmission fluid(5L) and transfer case (0.5L) = ~6L
Currently at 140K/miles...........................Purchased 100K/miles
Unknown if previous owner ever changed it or not and I just now became aware this needed to be changed and currently do not have any issues with vehicles jerks, etc.
