Wire harness Help

Ok I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for some if someone can point me in the right direction I appreciate it.

I am replacing the engine harness on a 2005 C230 after it got oil in it and shorted. The top is done but I can't figure out how to get to it from the bottom. It looks like it goes over the starred and around but I am lost.

If anyone can help I appreciate it.

How many miles do you have? What were the symptoms of the shorted engine harness? I've heard they can be cleaned, but I dunno. Maybe try searching for cleaning engine harness and that might show you threads about how people took them out?

I have 90 thousand miles on mine. For me the symptoms were intermittent charging issues. It acted like the battery was dying or the alternator was going out.

Yes I did a search for thos e already. If you are going to pull it to clean it, spend the 300 bucks and just replace it. I see no sense in cleaning it and hoping it fixes the issue.

I have found oil all the way down on my injector plugs so the cam sensors were leaking quite a bit into the harness.

I have 90% of it out, I just have to figure out how to get to it at the bottom of the car, I am going to pull the starter tonight and see if I can get to it from there. It really just becomes a point of how much of your engine do you want to tear apart....

Well most people don't want to spend $300 on a part that can be repaired, but to each his own. Make sure you fit the pigtails once you get it all back together.

MY point is you cannot be 100% certain that cleaning it will repair it. If it shorts out there could be damage further into the harness. Without bench checking each wire, you really don't know.

It is worth the 300 bucks so far to know I have a good harness. As far as the pig tails, I am going to fit them on but I don't see how they really will correct a problem of poor engineering

And MY point was that the dealership mentality of being part-swappers isn't always cost effective. It's your money and not my business.

The pig tails don't fix the poorly engineered pieces. They prevent oil from said pieces from entering where it shouldn't be. It's quite simple.

Oh I agree in being part swappers, however when it comes to wiring you just never know better safe than sorry.

My other point is MB needs to fix the problem with poorly designed cam sensors, not just som crappy pig tail fix. Besides if the oil shorts out the wiring like it did in my case, the pig tail won't fix it.

My harness is shorted, damaged, cleaning it won't repair it.

Yeah that issue can certainly lead to massive failures. Some people have gotten $5k repair quotes. Unfortunately, seeing as how the M271 left these shores after 2005 - updated cam sensors are probably not going to happen. At least the pig tail ("adapter wire" in MB-speak) keeps the oil out of the critical areas.

What would cause engine harness to kinda melt on my 2004 c230 komoressor? How can I fix this without going insane in the membrane?
