Where to buy the Chrome Shifter Bezel for an Automatic?
The chrome (well chrome covered plastic piece) bezel that goes around the gear selector (shifter) on my car is broke. Everytime I put it in gear it pops off and the stealership wants $161 for a new one. Anyone know where I can get another one for less ?? Thanks

...a panty dropper...
This is off of Parts.com and it looks like your not going to get a better deal so might as well just buy a new one or keep your eye on ebay. I saw one on ebay a few months ago...

Pull the shift knob, pop the trim, use some paper clips, drill some small holes...
as shown, problem solved.

I did this well over a year ago, maybe 2.
It never ever pops up any more, not once.
Duct tape you say?
I laugh at your duct tape! Ha!
It's the little things that make a difference.
Having that messed up, and dealing with it daily, especially after the tabs break off,
well, it just makes the car feel cheap. An easy fix, for the price of a few paper clips.
I can't remember if there was any glue involved.
Unfortunately, they don't just sell the chrome frame, you have to buy the whole assembly.
Even if they did, it still would pop out.
Geez last I checked it was about 80-90.
Inflation...

You'd need twice the paper clips, then.
Makes me glad I bought the Simoni shift surround when they made it, otherwise, I'd probably be looking for a replacement again. I hope the W204's are better designed than ours.

wait wait.
not funny!
Forget w204's. I'm in love with W211 bluetec.
Anyone happen to have a spare or know where to get one?!

Your best bet is probably ebay, and look out for Potomac's listings. Or call them directly. They generally have a ton of sh*t, so these trim pieces should be fairly common (though the generally crappy design might mean that they'd tend to break in an accident, so I may be wrong).

Finally a kindred spirit. someone who sees the merit in my $1.00 fix.
Whats' the point in buying another one only to have the same problem in a couple months?
Just remember if you go in for service, to pop it off for them if
removing it is required for service, or show them.

Did it. Used a bit of a different method in affixing the clips and used probably twice as many just to ensure a snug fit. Nonetheless, it worked like a charm and saved me $158+shipping. Thanks for the idea!
