help me recover the SAPRISSA Euro-Coupe thread
hi folks,
unfortunately, due to a weird glitch that deletes entire threads when you play with the first post, the whole 66+ page SAPRISSA's 2003 Euro-Coupe (CL203) a la Mode Thread was wiped out.
To recover the thread I've asked the Admins for their help. IB hopefully backs-up MBWorld regularly, but I'm not counting on it.
I would like to ask those of you who were subscribed to my thread, and received an e-mail notification with the actual new post embedded in the e-mail to help me rebuild my posts. I understand many of you probably delete those MBWorld announcement e-mails, but maybe some of you didn't, and they're just sitting in your old inbox.
I only need the postings made in May and June of this year, so if you have those e-mails from MBWorld with the full posting embedded, can you please send to me at:
Saprissa@aol.com
I will be forever indebted, and hopefully, I can reconstruct my thread from old GOOGLE cached sites, and my collective memory. I apologize to all those who posted on my thread, and now have lost their postings too. My post count (not that I care) went down by like 1,700, so I'm assuming some of you lost quite a bit of posts too, considering the thread was like on page 66 (x50 posts per page).
Thanks !!!!
Carlos

every bit helps...
if you guys want you can post the text portion of the e-mails here, and I'll cut & paste away.
Once I have a good percentage of my thread back together, I'll re-post and keep it going.
My main concern is that the posts made in the last 30 days (May / June) (specifically, the step-by-step install of the rear Euro-plate bezel) are gone, because they are too recent to show up on the GOOGLE cache.
I think what I'm going to do, is start a thread in the "TEST" section of the forum, as I piece together as many posts as I can. And then with my "super moderator" powers move the thread over here to the W203 section, once I feel it is built up enough to be productive again.

Carlos - someone will have made a pdf of the euro plate bezel S by S. You must chase the forum backup!

Hello Carlos,
I don't think I'm officially "subscribed" to your thread,... an oversight on my part. But I did post to it regarding the Euro-plate bezel and you responded on June 3rd. A few days later I wanted to post to suggest you thoroughly wash the underside of the car (to get rid of salt since rust usually attack the bottom part of car first) and especially the inside lip of the wheelwell (there's a 1-2cm lip of the fender that folds into wheel well that accumulates dirt & mud which holds moisture and thus encourage corrosion),... but I couldn't find your thread,... it was all gone.
BTW Carlos, I don't believe the "glitch" theory,... I think your thread was deleted by the powers that be simply because it was just too pornographic! Let's face it,... your car is much better than ****! And if you ever post a picture of your car wearing Victoria Secrets panties and angel wings,.... I will NOT be responsible for my actions!
Anyways,... before I get myself "deleted",... from 03/06/2009 4:16 AM:
Dear SunnyRayToronto,
Saprissa has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Saprissa's 2003 Euro-Coupe (CL203) a la Mode thread - in the C-Class (W203) forum of MBWorld.org Forums.
This thread is located at:

Here is the message that has just been posted:

That was a lot of work changing from US rear-plate bezel to Euro rear-plate bezel. Wouldn't it had been easier to find a Euro tailgate hatch door in a junkyard in Germany? It'll also make it easier to switch back to US tailgate when you bring your coupey back to USA.
---End Quote---
It may have been easier, but just as costly, and a hassle to find the right painted hatch door. They are not as common in junk yards as they would seem here in Germany. There are other complications such as: radio antenna, rear defroster, TeleAid antenna, and if your rear hatch window is tinted, then you need to re-tint. All extra headaches I didn't want to deal with. So, bezel replacement was the best best, and there were already MB Tech Sheets that showed the step by step process.
I don't want to change back to a US tailgate when I go back to the USA. I'll just use the Euro-to-US plate adapter.

Those rear-plate bezel seem to be made of plastic or fiber glass.
---End Quote---
Yes, they are made of plastic. That's why you need those plastic primer products for the adhesive.

You should add the license plate bracket bolts (Part # A 001 990 82 58) to the parts list,... it'll be helpful for those driving Mercedes in Snow-Belt regions. Do you have much experience driving in snow? It doesn't look like your coupey have ever seen any snow. But there'll be snow in Germany!
---End Quote---
When my Coupe got to Germany there was plenty of snow on the ground, and pretty much up through the middle of April. So it's seen its 3-4 months of snow already. Luckily the car is always garaged, and at work its under a car port. The autobahn and streets around in Stuttgart are well cleared, and its only in the non-cleared areas (small secondary streets) where they throw a bit of that road salt around. As most people who have followed this thread, know I'm pretty **** about keeping my car clean, to include the undercarriage, so wheel wells and bottom pan get a fresh water wash down once a week during snow season.
The place where I work also has a drive-thru fresh water spray down booth, so I run it through there during snow season. Additionally, I swapped out my chrome rims & performance tires for a podunk set of steelie rims and snow tires during snow season. As of May 1st, I'm back to my "regular" / summer set.

The screws you need for those license plate bracket bolts (Part # A 001 990 82 58) are Metric Phillips Pan Head Machine Screw M5-0.8 x 10mm Length,... most Mercedes-Benz parts department will give them to you free of charge,... but they're not stainless steel. *** If your Mercedes-Benz will be driven in snow then I would strongly recommend you get the STAINLESS STEEL ones (Go to HomeDepot or whatever they call it in Germany). *** In snow area, they typically use road salt in the winter (melts snow and increase traction) but salt is terrible for the body of the car,... too much salt is always bad,... pepper is fine!
Anyways,.... non-stainless steel screws will corrode and weaken within a few snow seasons,.... and when you take those screws off to change license plates or plate frames,... the head of the screw will snap off leaving the body of the screw inside the license plate bracket bolt. This have happend to me on all four license plate screws on the back of my coupe. Once this happens the only way to fix it is to drill out the stuck remains of the corroded screws from the license plate bracket bolt,... starting with small drill bits and working your way up to thicker ones. If you bring it to your local Mercedes-Benz Stealership, they'll charge you about an hour labour for this service,... plus the parts (license plate bracket bolt - Part # A 001 990 82 58).
---End Quote---
I had already bought staineless steel screws for my Euro-plate bezel before I left the States. So I'm good to go. Well aware of non-stainless steel corrosion problems, and actually all of my cars have stainless steel plate screws (front & back), snow or no snow, even when I lived in California.
Good information above, however, for those who might not be used to driving in snow conditions. Thanks

Carlos, you still have all the pics right? Is it just the text that your missing from May & June? Do you need the pictures from May & June? Are all the other pictures before May & June are recoverable from the backups?

It's just the text that I'm missing. It's hard to re-write something, specially because I edited, and re-edited several times, before I pushed "submit".
I just wanted it to read just right. And it's tough to re-create something so long and complicated.
thanks guys !!!

Also you should talk to the people who host MBWorld. They for sure have a BACKUP of the database and they probably have it saved. Talk to them (person who is in charge) and they will be bale to get it up.
