Tagged: No Front License Plate..

On this fourth of July weekend, I decided to go home to celebrate with my family, friends, and enjoy my dad's birthday dinner.

Silly me, however, for driving my car out even after my dad told me to drive his, because he knew of my multiple possible infractions: fr license plate, tints, and exhaust.

It was on Irving, SF.
The street of 22nd where the po-po passed me, and the corner of 24th where he stopped me.
I saw his two lights, and immediately rolled down my front two windows, and made a really slow right turn to see if he was really going for me.
He was.
There goes his bright lights, flashing red and blue.
Damn police lights are bright. "Sir, stay in your vehicle he broadcasted."

Took him 20 minutes to write me an 'infraction' ticket to fix my Front License Plate.
I told him I had the license plate in my rear trunk, and made subtle hints from my wallets visible ID card that I am a college student that just drove down from Davis. No Go. No pity for the college student.

Overall, I have an infraction that he said would not appear on my records.
I would have to pay administrative fees (he said it was under $25, but I have learned not to trust cops), and get it signed off.
This is my first ticket!!
I've never gotten a parking or speeding ticket. And I am very thankful.
I hope, and wish never to get one

San Francisco is really going crazy with the ticketing. I mean... I wasn't driving stupidly, loudly or obnoxiously. He pulled me over for a freaking license plate... In davis I get away with race car exhaust sounds, tints almost always up, and no fr license plate... Tsktsk.
I love SF, but this ticket tagging is ridiculous.
Quite a few of my friends have gotten them too after driving back =/

So what I really want to know is:

How do I put up my front license plate for this infraction/fix-it ticket without drilling holes into my bumper?
I would like to take it off in Davis, and put it back on in SF.
At the same time, I would like the plate to stay somewhat in place as well.
I guess I have the stock front bracket that came with the car... but that looks bulky.

Advice very much so appreciated. And thank you if you read my story

Here are a couple of very recent threads that should help:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...te-fix-la.html

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ont-plate.html

I live in Oregon and got a ticket last year for the same thing. I just gave in and put the OEM license plate bracket on because I'm downtown quite a bit and the meter maids are **** about it.

I gotta fix-it tickets for my front plate a few months ago.

I just used Gorilla Tape to tape the mounting bracket onto my front bumper. Went to a Police station....got it signed off......and took off the plate lol

The fee was $15 I think too

Thanks for the help guys.

I'm looking into the tow hook mount, but on the gominigo.com site, which tow-hook under the mercedes-benz would fit my C280's tow-hook?

edit: I just saw their measuring technique.. it looks kinda'... inaccurate, and I don't have a printer with me to use =/
edit: I found this from the internet: tommy trying to start a group-buy, but I think it failed.
https://mbworld.org/forums/group-pur...e-bracket.html

And prices have gone up?! Ridiculous! I just checked at it's 70$ + shipping..
Meh. Whatever.
Now I just need to know that for W203's, the tow-hook size is still their so called "MB1" right?
(Would totally appreciate it if anyone could confirm this, as I want to order asap to clear this infraction ticket to avoid added fees...)

Also, do we need their 'offset brackets' ?
From what I've read it allows 2 inches of... movement? I guess left and right, rather than the Up and Down of what's included?

It seems like it's going to make my car look weird as it'll cover part of the side impact strips...
I essentially want the plate to sit as low as possible, without covering the fog lights =/
**EDIT: Kit comes with that adjustable thing, so it should be fine**

I got a no front ticket too. What I'm going to do is grab some string, that type of string you use to fly kites or zip ties.. and tie my plate to the lower mesh grill..and WAA LAA! lol little ghetto but does the trick

EDIT: I see you have a c280 i don't know think those models came with the sports kit?

c280's don't have mesh..
we have this weird 2 lined thing.
I was thinking of zip-ties... but I think I'mma go with something stronger than that on my trips back to SF, haha.. Davis is fine for other things because it's a college town i suppose
I'm hoping to get the e63 from andy (another member here) soon.

So that brings up another question:

Does the e63 bumper have a tow-hook port? That push out thing?
I see a circle thing that would go where the tow-hook is, but i'm not sure if the location of all tow-hooks are the same for c230's, c280's, and c320's

Lol. Its bound to happen sooner or later. I got plenty of those tickets parked.. About three ib one month. What I do is velcro my **** on, or you can use double sided tape. But the towhook bracket is nice too. Do you have summer school at Davis, JiMmy?

Yeah. I have an internship and summer school at Davis.
I'm not used to the heat, so it's hottttttttttt.
The car registered 119F degrees outside once o.O
Then cools off when I'm driving.

I'll be back this sunday night
I ordered the tow, and bought some visors.
The visors are kinda'... iffy about how they're outside of the windows, but they look good overall.

Funny how I got my first ticket merely an hour after I got the visors =/

Front License Plate Bust & Solution

I am in San Jose, same sort of thing, happened coming home from the clubs dancing at 2 am

Got Pulled over Cop Said No License Plate.

If you notice Many Cars Do not have them either. ever see a vette with one? New Mercedes are sold without even the bracket.

anyways he did not stop there. that was only an excuse to stop and question.

asked how long I have known my girlfriend and where did we meet.
I guess the short dress and makeup?

it did not stop there either.

had me step out and do DRUNK TESTING wtf?
about 15 of them. they are difficult to do on acorns, rocks and an uneven road, but passed them all. about 20 minutes worth. now 2:30 am

He then Pulled out this thing with a tube and told me to Blow. wtf?

I said no way, if it is calibrated like your radars, with a little screw on the back to read higher...I am screwed.

He said he would arrest me if I did not do blow his device.

===============
I did have 2 beers and told him, That is why he said Ineeded to blow his device.

================

I said I thought this was about No License plate? no repsonse

he said thats it, your going downtown.....

==================
what about my girlfriend, my car?

this is your last chance.... he warned

I said it appears I have no choice,
andBlew!! He Said Harder... Harder.... Harder

He looked at it, then his partner, and shrugged.
and Told Me to have a nice night.

wtf? really, I was shaking, in the middle of the road,
and he tells me that? have a nice night?

it was a .03
less than half of what you need.

========================

he did not even write me for the license plate,
the REASON HE PULLED ME OVER.

take note!

=========================

so i came up with a clever idea.

Going to PUT MAGNETS with epoxy on the back of plate
Strong ones, and a set on the INSIDE OF BUMPER

this way you can simply pop it ON AND OFF.
forget the monkey grip tape and holes and kite string... thats silly

imagine easy On and easy Off. with no holes-backets. glue residue etc

next time I am going out,
grab it from the trunk and it sticks right on. next day its coming off.

looking into this magnet trick to solve the problem.....

No Joke, no front Plate IS A BUST in California

But its ok for the illegals to put the "used car" paper ones in the frames and get away with it for years tho, as if they just bought the stolen car.

It was troublesome, but a good night for you.

I bet they were probably worried about the legality of what they were doing.
If they stopped you for no front license plate ticket, you could've gotten it, and fixed it saying there was always one there, but they didn't check to go fight in court, then counter sue them for stereotyping you for drinking just because your girlfriend was wearing a short skirt, because the fact of the matter was that you weren't drunk.

But either way.

My cop didn't make me do the breathalyzer test.
Hell. He didn't even walk to the front of my car.
Too bad I can't contest it because I was being too nice of a guy and said that my plate was in the back trunk. Failure. Because it was.
I thought since I was being so nice, he'd do the same and give me a warning.

All he did was ask when I got my car, etc. Go fix it.

Whatever~
I bought the tow-hook mount. Too lazy to go and buy neodymium magnets, epoxy the back and do the same to the plate.
I'm just hoping the fix-it ticket isn't some ridiculous amount of bullfeces.

No offense guys, but you live in a state that requires front plates.

If you don't like it, call the state legislature, complain about the cost for the state to produce both plates, etc. Get the law changed, but until it is changed, if your vehicle is registered there, you should be displaying a front plate.

One of my biggest pet peeves, in Georgia, people that have their cars registered out of state and don't have the front plate displayed when required. Either put the front plate on it, or register it here in Georgia, and pay the taxes, like I do.

Ok, soap-box off.

Some of you guys are f'ing clueless to the law and come here and talk a bunch of sh*t you know nothing about. Once the police have probable cause to stop you it's game over. If they ask you if you've been drinking or smell alcoholic beverages, you're fair game to whatever tests they want to give. Don't take the tests, they can lock you up. They don't need enough evidence to convict you on the street. The can articulate probable cause for arrest and let the court deal with it later. Lastly, you don't need to be a .08 or more to be arrested in most states. I'm not sure about Cali so I don't want to comment, but some of you guys need to wise up...

+1 In Georgia .051 combined with a moving violation (speeding, etc) can be a "less safe DUI." and a pretty easy conviction. Why give them a reason?

WHAT ABOUT MOTORCYCLES?

The reason for the Front license plate is to
identify Red Light Runners and mail them a ticket.

this is what has been explained to me.

============

Then how is it OK FOR MOTORCYCLES
who frequently run lights get away with no front plate?

==========

every thought about that?

should not ALL VEHICLES be required then to have a front plate?

Shouldnt the NEW CARS SOLD have a bracket to put a plate?

===================

no doubt it was a good night, I was let free, and was not shot by mistake.

but only after a series of dificult to perform balance tests
and brain teasers that Many folks could not pass sober

like i said, had only 2 beers, about an hour before hand
a responsible driver with perfect driving record and no accidents.

==================================

I agree its the Law!

Laws are written TO BE BROKEN TO INCREASE REVENUES for the state.

in california each year THOUSANDS OF NEW LAWS are written.
You think to make it a safer place?

how about to INCREASE REVENUE?
and get you in the legal system to control you and your money.

this supports the judges, cops, and the politicians that write and support the laws. thousands of new ones each year.... welcome to america folks

====================

Your right
I DO NEED TO WISE UP.........
and will install the front plate soon to avoid future issues.

===========================

anyone else have horror stories regarding
NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE IN CALIFORNIA?
or what other states require this.

and what about the motorcycles.
why dont they need one? how they exempt?

remember its for running red lights, to mail you a ticket and envelope to pay.
that is the Main Reason for this law

the Red Lights are Programmed to have a short yellow
to give kickbacks to the company that installs it this way.

city lawsuits pending everywhere, its no secret, regarding this activity.
thats Why I Prefer NO Front Plate...

...TO PROTECT MYSELF from this sort of Revenue Maker from unethical Cities.

Yes dancze, it is a grand conspiracy to fabricated to send you a red light ticket. Red light cameras take pictures from the rear also, so you should probably take the rear plate off, too. While you're at it get one of those cool James Bond plates that flip... Don't run red lights and you won't have an issue with that either.

Watch out if your in CA. The damn state is about to go broke so they have no money to hand to the local cities. So in turn those cities are gonna cite anyone anywhere to increase their income.

I am in LA and you could go 100mph down a main street and the cops didnt look twice. Now I see people just a couple inches into the pedestrian lane getting pulled.

This doesn't help the topic at all.
And the fact that getting tagged by a camera from the rear does not mean you get a ticket as the argument would be that you were more than half-way across the street, and therefore made it. As long as you're not stuck in the middle with cars blocking you from going past the actual crosswalk.
Otherwise you would get a obstructing pedestrian's safety ticket.

I'm Not promoting running red lights at all, as that not only endangers yourself, but others as well. Running red lights is something stupid to do, and admittedly I have done it ACCIDENTALLY once. I didn't even realize until I was through, and looked at my rear view mirror. Good thing I was going at like.. 20mph. I was scared that there was a cop around, and would pull me over. But it was alright. Phew.

Isn't LA in CA?
Lol.

But it's seriously a problem in some densely populated urban cities.
In CA you could get tickets for:

- Not turning your wheel the proper way, MASSIVELY, on a street with barely any incline / decline. ($89)
- Parking in your own driveway, taking up 2 of the 4.5 sqaure blocks of the street even when there are no spots available. ($89)

I just think that cops writing up tickets for EVERYTHING now is evident of how bad the economy has fallen

I would have to think that the front plates that are popular in many states are not just for red light camera tickets, since most states have had them for oh.....50 years or more now, and I don't think we have been photographing red light runners that long. But I could be wrong.

I would suspect that the origins had to do with being able to identify the vehicle from the front as well as the back, as opposed to the current use of simply displaying that the vehicle has been taxed. Motorcycles have never been as numerous as automobiles, but I don't have a guess as to why they are different.

Actually it would make sense for the dealership to have to install the front tag bracket, if they knew the vehicle would be registered in a front tag state, but I suppose it is simpler to require the owner to be responsible for that.

Personally, I hate front plates, I think they are silly. Fortunately, Georgia doesn't require them for vehicles registered here.
