Wink Buried C's (AKA My Big Ten Inch)

Our two C's ... an Everest Green 2002 C320 and an Orion Blue 2002 C230K... buried under several inches of snow... we had a few inches yesterday, and I cleared them off, so this isn't really representative of how much snow we've gotten so far....

Big Ten Inch

And here's the ten inches... this was about an hour and a half ago, since then we've gotten another two inches or so...

We're probably going to see at least 16" or so total by tomorrow

ok, ok, ok, on another board I got a reply from someone saying "Let us know when you get some REAL snow...." and he posted THIS link:

I humbly agree! OUCH!

Don't complain about snow, I'd love to have snow over the -30C weather we've had.

That is the number one reason I left the Midwest, to much snow, ice, black ice, sleet, hail just to name a few troubles. Now I am in sunny warm San Diego, the car stays clean and looks great! And I do not freeze my ...... off.

Update... we're now at about 20" and they've upped the forecast, we may see as much as 30" from this storm, which they're now calling "one of the worst five storms on record in this area"

The governor's declared an emergency because we've run out of snow removal funds, and there's been a ban imposed on any non-essential vehicle traffic... nobody on the roads! Wow.

This pic shows the upright blades of our C-cars not far from being completely coverered.... by tomorrow night, they may be!

BEing form Texas we never see snow like that... Why do you leave the wipers extended? Does it help them frm being frozen to the glass?

Yes, in deep snow, leaving the blades up helps in two ways: first, it keeps the blades from getting frozen/buried beneath lots of snow and/or ice, second, having the blades vertical prevents/reduces ice from sticking and caking on them. By doing this, when you finally do dig out your car, you can just brush off the windshield and the blades are good to go. Otherwise, you'd be dealing with breaking them out of their ice enclosure, and having to scrape and chip the ice off the blades.

wow!

That is just some crazy snow! I don't know how I would handle that being in SD. Only once has it snowed here and that was a little bit of flakes on Valentine's day 1989. That lasted for about 5 minutes and everyone in school got to come out. The flakes when it hit the ground just melted right away, but that was pretty cool!

Does the cars drive fine right after somethime like that? Do you have to warm them up for a while? And you need chains too?! How do you cope?

First, when it snows driving is reduced quite a bit and the idiots come out in droves. You have to warm up the vehicle before driving it, sometimes it is better staying home until the snow plows come through and clean the area. I was in the middle of an ice storm and it took me for ever to get home. I can honestly say when it snows the tow trucks make $$.

Lockbuster's right.... the CARS drive fine, it's the DRIVERS that don't ... Here in the Mid-Atlantic, we get just enough snow to be a big problem... people just don't know how to handle it, and drive like complete morons (actually, they drive like morons around here when the weather's good, never mind when it rains or snows).

Bottom line, stay home if you can. Now, that's not a "choice" as it is a mandate: No non-essential vehicles on the road. We're at about 22" now and due for 8" or so more by tomorrow, beating the all-time record of 26" here in 1979. If we do get another 4"+, this will be classified as the biggest storm in recorded history in this region.

I wish I would have stayed home tonight. We don't have nearly the amount of snow that you do, but the roads are pretty bad. I had no problem earlier, but then the snow started. We got about an inch of snow on top of some ice and whatever else was on the roads. It made it nearly impossible to drive. And I put my C7's back on about 2 weeks ago because I never expected anything this bad. Even though I already knew it, now I can confirm that C7's are a no-go when it gets bad enough. Looks like I'll be putting the 16's back on tomorrow, and some weight in the back.

But, I am home now and the car isn't wrecked, so all is good. I got stuck bad in my apartment driveway. At one point, I had the car idling in 2nd gear while I was behind it pushing. Not fun. And I think I burnt out the ESP. I was getting all the same messages as when it's in dyno mode. I had that on earlier in the day when I was playing around, but I shut it off, and all those messages came back after I was stuck for so long. Oh well, I'm tired, but safe.

Well I am nice and warm here in San Diego where the tempature is in the 60's to 70's and I do not see any snow soon. I am glad to be home again. That cold weather sucks!

Well here's the blades almost fully buried, we got about 27-28", with maybe another 2-3" due today. This has now been officially declared the biggest single snowstorm this region's ever gotten.

Mine is in my garage. We got 25-30 inches in the last two days. I am sick of snow blowing my walk and in front of the garage.

Because my 3 car garage is still full of boxes from moving in Soon I'll be able to park all the cars in the garage...which will be nice, I hate having to scrape ice of my windows or sitting in a freezing cold car.
