No problem Dave. The last picture/graphic in Glyn's post really sums it up. The ET (german abbrv. for insertion depth) is the distance of the wheel mounting - hub of wheel from the center line of the wheel. Hub at the center line of the wheel would be a 0 offset wheel. Hub moving out from centerline (as in away from the car) goes into "postitive" offset numbers.

Just occurred to me how clever Centerline wheels' name is...

Those AMG wheels you mention are all in the correct range offset wise for our cars. On sport models, clearing the bigger front brake calipers can sometimes be an issue. Good luck on it and post a pic with the new wheels !

I got some AMG 18" rims, Front are 7.5 ET30 and Rear are 8.5 ET 34.
I know that the AMG 17" are Front ET37 and Rear ET30.

Dave
You are quite correct with your AMG offsets. They will fit your car perfectly & look fabulous.

I got brand new Bridgestones 245/35/18 for the rear and plan to mount them up this weekend and put the wheels on. The fronts are at 50% 225/40/18 Conti Sports.

Huh! Chrome - same as Saprissa's - very nice. I love that pattern AMG wheel. So much better than the C32 wheels.

Wheel Fitment on a C230 Sport

Afternoon Guys,
Im looking for a set of snows... and had a question. Will a set of SLK320 (03) rims fit on my 04' C230 sport?? The guy thats selling them says that they should fit.... and Tire Rack said the wheels were the same offset and center hole size. Any comments or suggestions??

Are your front brake rotors cross-drilled from the factory? If so, you have a 2004.5 and may have fitment issues.

Exclamation

those brakes get me very time...

I have looked at alot of wheels I like but don't fit, and everybody says if I use hub centric spacers the wheels will fit, but everybody knows that isn't safe...

Good hubcentric spacers are safe - if they can be fitted by Porsche then on our pedestrian Mercs they will be OK. - The reason I would not use them are that so many people have vibration problems with them.

Red face

Yeah I have just heard of nightmare stories where a stud has broken or in our case a lug bolt...

I got my C230 wheels a few weeks ago, bolted up perfect, SLK/C230 should use the same offset of about 35-40. Only problem i had was the tires size, ordered it too wide and it was rubbing.

The wheels may fit. ( tires are too wide) I have 18x9.5" 35mm ET in the back of my wagon. Running 255/35/18's for tires. No rubbing and i am sitting low on coilovers. It's tight but it works.

My fronts are 18x8" with a 32mm offset so a 8.5" in front with a 30 ET should work. Tire size will be critical in front as well. No guarantees, but i think it may work. Test fit them for sure. Good Luck on it.

Am I right?

So for these AMG wheels/rims I need the 8x18 and 9x18 to fit?
I meant the tires on them were too big.

Can a stock alloy be fixed?

The bent rim that I have on the front, they are saying it can be fixed. Are they blowing smoke up my tailpipe or is this accurate?

I have been told that you can by the MB dealer and that you cannot by Mr. Tire. Any experiences? Is it going to be tough to balance?

It can probably be fixed to hold air, but it will probably be out of round forever and vibrate in the 60-70 mph range.

I had one bent like that (not quite as bad) and had it repaired for about $90. The repairing guy said the alloy used was "really nice" and didn't immediately crack like cheaper wheels. It was out of round by ~.025 and I never got it to ride as smoothly as before.

+1 - I have had a bent rim fixed and it looked good, just never felt the same...

I could sell you one of my stock 2005 wheels. I put the C32 wheels on mine, so I have a set. PM me if interested.

Your best bet is to find a replacement.
Check the forums and ebay.
I bought a whole set of rims from a forum member for 50 bucks!
But, one was cracked. I kept 2 to match the 2 I already had, sold one on ebay for $85, and still have the cracked one to be melted down when I get around to it. So basically I got 2 free rims, and all my money back.

Good call. Yeah, I'm going to stay away from getting this repaired.
