I am having some trouble with my wheel locks.

I bought wheel locks a while ago (same item Link)
Searching on this forum it is what I'm suppose to get. The rear wheels work (but minor screeching noise) and the front does not even tighten the wheels, there is lots of play (bolts are too long).

I want to get new locking lug nuts. What I want to know is what locking lug bolts to get so my car doesn't have any screeching noise from the rear and will fit the front. I've checked out RAD but they are only four where I need 20 lug bolts. Any help is appreciated.

a few questions. 1) do you have aftermarket rims? 2) if so, are u sure u don't need a different length? 3) If oem rims, which ones?

I hate McGuard. Their design sucks. Once its torqued on too tight its game over. I had 4 keys on 4 different cars break because my dumb cars came with McGuards from the dealer. Every time they had to pound the locks off with a hammer and socket and it even broke the socket. It costs me too much money and headache. DONT EVER use McGuards. The one the guy had on the ebay link works a lot better. Some other wheel locks also are dumb, they just come off with a socket. LOL.

They are aftermarket rims. Brabus replicas. The rears are fine but the front is what I'm most concerned about. When I tighten them until they can't turn anymore (hand tight, don't want to strip anything) it still sticks out. Two lug bolts from the spare tires are being used to hold them in place right now since the stock nor the aftermarket bolts don't work. I thought that whatever fits the front would fit the rear. This is for an 04 C240 base if that helps.

I got the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. It was the only thing available at the local tire store for 19". There was another brand I wasn't familiar with which was cheaper.

When the tires cost more than the rims I would much rather replace the rim than the tire, I think that is what I meant.

I ordered some Gorilla locking lug bolts. Hopefully they would work. I will report back with the part number incase someone else runs into the same situation.

Recently, for my 2003 Mercedes Benz C230 Sports Coupe,.. I did some shopping for Wheel Locking Nut,... err, actually BOLTS! And here's a short summary of what I found. OEM Wheel Locking Bolts from Mercedes Benz are expensive,... shocking, eh!

Actually, I got two quotes from Parts Department of two different Mercedes Benz dealership in Toronto,.... one was $105 CAN and the other was $125 CAN (different prices at different dealers, so it pays to shop around),... and that's before sales tax! American prices generally tend to be about $80-90US,... similar on flea-bay.

Who actually make these Mercedes Benz OEM Wheel Locking Nuts/Bolts? Mercedes? Nope! Its McGard,... they also supply OEM Wheel Locking Nuts/Bolts to at least 30 other car makers. So just go to your local auto-parts store and order McGard Wheel Locking Bolts for your Mercedes,.... well, not so fast,... seems Mercedes-Benz has a deal with McGard,... Mercedes-Benz uses McGard as OEM Factory Wheel Locking Bolts,... but McGard can't sell them in North America,.... forcing us North American Mercedes owners to buy OEM Wheel Locking Nuts/Bolts from Mercedes-Benz dealership at their high prices,... shocking!

But of course,... in today's world,... we can shop at the auto-parts store in Europe, Asia and anywhere else in the world right from our own home computer,... just as easily as going to the local auto-parts store,.... actually, easier,... if you know what you're looking for.

When it comes to finding the right wheel locking nut,... err, actually bolt in the case of Mercedes. There are a number of things you must consider. Are you using factory or aftermarket wheels. Even with OEM factory wheels, OEM factory alloy wheels will need longer bolts than the OEM factory steel wheels. It's best to take one bolt off the car and take some measurements.

There are at least 2 different threads pitch. Some Mercedes car uses M14x1.5 Thread Pitch, other uses M12x1.5

My 2003 Mercedes Benz C230 Sports Coupe with OEM factory alloy wheels (5 spoke twin 16" rim) has the following measurements:
- thread pitch is M12x1.5
- total length is 61mm
- thread length is 22mm
- shank length (end of thread to where the seat starts) is 40mm
- width of 6 sided HEX bolt is 17mm
- has R12 radius/sphere (ball-type) seat (Seat is shape of non thread part surface of bolt that actually touches wheel,... typically, ball or cone shape)

Not only does Mercedes-Benz uses McGard for OEM Factory Wheel Locking Bolts,... but Mercedes-Benz uses the McGard ULTRA Wheel Locking Bolts,... much stronger than standard McGard Wheel Locking Nuts/Bolts,... and it has a spinning sleeve,... added security feature.

FYI, my 2003 Mercedes Benz C230 Sports Coupe with OEM factory alloy wheels uses McGard Ultra item# 28023SL (SL is for Ultra) with dimensions M12 x 1.5 thread pitch, R12 seat, 39.9mm shank length and 17mm bolt size.

I ordered my McGard Ultra from UK and it cost me £30 + £12 shipping = £42 total,.... about $65 CAN,... basically half of what the local Mercedes Benz dealership charged after tax! The only difference between the McGard Ultra Wheel Locking Bolts I got and the one the Mercedes Benz dealership sells,.. is the Mercedes Benz one comes in a black plastic box,.... man, that's one expensive little black plastic box,... especially when it's going to be empty since the wheel locks will be on the wheels!

This site will help you find the right McGard Wheel Locking Nut/Bolt based on car Manufacturer and Model with OEM Factory Wheels,... or based on aftermarket wheels manufacturer.

An old thread but nobody mentioned Project Kics DPS (Dual Phase System) bolts. They are manufactured in Japan by Kyo-EI Corporation. http://www.kyoei-ind.co.jp/sangyo/

These bolts look good, have an interior 7 sided lock design for close fitting lug recesses on wheels and a second locking cap that screws into the wheel bolt.


If you can source them directly from Japan I was able to get the entire set of 20 for less than $200. They retail for about $380 in the US. These are for aftermarket wheels and have a tapered 60degree seat. Though my stock radius bolts have a 40mm thread length I only needed a 28mm bolt for the aftermarket wheels.

The only thing bad I have heard about these is that sometimes the locking cap gets frozen within the bolt. I still like the style and will be using anti-seize (just on the cap that screws in the bolt) to ensure this doesn't happen.

you can buy them at the dealers or internet such as Amazon, E Bay, etc.
i know of two MERCEDES FACTORY versions.
short 14 mm part no B66470155, long B66470156. YOU JUST HAVE TO VERIFY WHICH SIZE IS ON YOUR CAR.
Most auto parts stores carry or can order McGARD brand.
