Can you post how much it will cost to ship one of these (self installed)? I think that's what everyone is waiting for. Otherwise can you please PM me the info? Thanks!

Very cool integrated into the key, but at $1k I'll get in and turn the ignition myself. Like others have said, $300 is probably the max I could do.

The starter system works just like other starters and better in mnay cases... In other words the factory remote stays functional while the starter is running. You can lock and unlock the doors independantly. When you want to drive you simply hit unlock, get in the vehicle and insert the key and turn to the 'run' position to go. Once the key hits the run position you have control of the vehicle and the starter is disabled. Both the steering wheel and shifter are locked until the key is inserted.

more detailed video

Here is another video of the Smartkey Starter in action. This time on a 2003 C32 AMG... This video also shows more of the basic operation: You start or stop by pressing the panic button. The lock and unlock and trunk buttons still work even when the remote starter is running. To take over control of the vehicle and drive you simply insert the key and turn to the run position (no need to shutdown and then restart.

The vehicle is protected against theft while the starter is running: The shifter remains locked until the key is physically inserted. If someone gets in the vehicle and attempts to even press the brake to shift without inserting the key then the starter ill auto shutdown. The starter also monitors the vehicle engine rpms against runaway conditions: if the engine goes above 1800 rpms the starter will auto shutdown. The starter monitors the hood pinswitch (if equipped on the vehicle) and will only run if the hood is latched closed.

Here is video of the C32...

Promotion Pricing

We finally heard back from our parts vendors and were able to calculate a group price for members here....

If we can get 20 people interested then the price goes all the way down to $599 for the starter. This price is unique to the W203 version of the starter as we were able to get a really good price on the parts specific to the C and that in turn allowed us to do this major price reduction. BTW: Did i mention that the Smartkey starter is made in the USA!...

Lets get this going and make it a great group buy!

Is the $599 group buy price including installation? If so what would be the price for people installing it themselves?

I think thats without the install, since earlier they said its very easy DIY type of a product.
Man, if it was closer to the 300 i would jump right on it, but since its a new product the price has to be high. I'll check in with you guys next year see where the pricing is

So there's a DIY involved? Or where could I take it to get it 'properly installed?

From the looks of it... to get 20 people.. might be little hard.

I definately like the setup you have then. I'm not quite sure if I could spend $600 either. Do you think if you upped the amount of people you could bring the price down more? I think somewhere inbetween $400 and $500 would get some good sales.

i think in the 400-500 range would get a few sales... but by no means 20 people.

i'm sure the development process was pretty involved, but regardless of how it got there... that function is not worth 600.

bring price down!

I know that I would buy at $300. Maybe we should start some sort of list to show just how many people we could get at that price.
