05-07 Command experts... have a look please
I picked up the unit in the pictures for an obscene price from a junkyard outside of D.C. It comes with a money back guarantee and a six month warranty. A pleasant surprise I must say.
Here's my questions:
1. I need a GPS antenna, will an aftermarket antenna work? Alpine maybe?
2. On the picture that shows the back, what are the blue, yellow and black plugs for? I know one has to be the radio antenna and one the GPS... any clue which is which?
3. Anyone know if the US market units are Alpine or Harman/Becker
4. This should be as easy as plug it in and turn it on, correct? No STAR visit?

That is the correct unit for the W203.
It is made by Alpine.
You can use a generic antenna.
Blue is for the GPS antenna.
The other two connectors are both for the FM antenna(s)
You MAY need coding depending on the configuration of your vehicle, and the configuration of the vehicle that unit came from. You can install it without worries, you're not going to damage anything even if it does need to be reconfigured. It is a direct plug and play.
Your gauge cluster will not show navigation info until it is coded at the dealer.

very nice i've been talking to a lad with the pre facelift comand and he's only looking 350euros but i could get him down below that but heres the killer............ i've no money for buying mods at the moment

Here is a quick article walking through the retrofit (with photographs), he does not have a table telling what the connectors are, but mentions them in the reading. In any case, you might find it helpful. He lists the part number for the retrofit antenna and the placement as well. That was sure a good deal!!

Installed and it works! Plus the navigation DVD was left installed! A total steal! I was planning on doing the install today but I got time late yesterday afternoon. It was an hour start to finish. Thanks for all the advice.

Does it play MP3 and did you end up plugging in the Aux fan?

The 2006 and up units play MP3s (I'm not sure if its a specific time in 06 that they were upgraded, or for all of 06).
AFAIK there is no aux fan for the W203, although there is a connector on the COMAND unit (I think this is because a nearly identical unit is used in other vehicles which require the aux fan).
