What's a good way to give back to the community? Post instructions on how to do maintenance the same way MB techs do.

Hi Haro, Thanks for the interesting threads they are really helpful. I have a W203 and changed the batteries in my key/remote and since then the odometer is reading 999999 km for the total km reading. It does not roll over to 0. The trip meter works fine and records the distane travekled correctly. Km to next service does not decrease either. Any suggestions please.

Here is what I found on the camshaft ("Check Basic Position of CamShaft")
http://i35.tinypic.com/29fazcy.jpg
http://i35.tinypic.com/17efxs.jpg
There is way more (Taking out camshaft, Set basic position of camshaft)
It's under "engine timing"-"Camshaft, Camshaft adjustment"
Here are possible causes:
Cam timing improperly set.
Continuous oil flow to the VCT piston chamber.
VCT solenoid valve stuck open.
Camshaft advance mechanism binding (VCT unit).

Take a look at this. Hopefully you can find someone who has something like this.

It's called the EnigmaTool. Find someone with it because it costs 9,500 Euro

This is amazing. +1
I was just thinking.. the best DIY's ever--would be if someone listed all the things that different services require. Then compiled it into clickable sections or simply a list of things to check off.
Does anyone get what I'm kind of saying?
Rather than taking in the car to do these services, why not do them yourself at a fraction of the cost?
The thing that stops most people (or just me) is that they don't know where to start, so a compilation of a list of things in each different service would be at least one step forward into people taking the time to do things.
Once again, Karo.
*I would help compile the list if I knew what each service entailed fully..

I still really haven't ditched the idea. I have been talking to some G35/350Z guys and have learned that it all comes down to the work is not worth it. By that I mean you are already going to do a turbo setup and spend a good chunk of money you might as well go the whole nine yards. I can't go the whole nine yards because I haven't heard of any reputable shops that can make lower compression pistons. With the stock compression which is 10.7 max I can run is 7-8psi and this is pushing it. Realistically I will probably do 4-5 to be on the safe side on the stock motor. With that much psi I probably will spend a lot of money and end up making probably 280 - 300 to the rear wheels. All this will most likely cost anywhere between 5-8k depending on the hardware (quality not ebay crap) and will need someone to specially tune the car. Atleast this is what I have been told by a lot of guys. The G35/350Z motor is easier because people have explored it. There are tons of aftermarket ECUs, and tons of info and tons of products. With the M272 no one has really explored it's capability. Again I haven't thrown out the idea 100% yet. Once i get back on track and start saving fund I'll still consider it. As of right now i'm 20% let's do it and 80% forget it.
We'll see
I'll make one for all the w203 soon. Just got to dedicate some time

1999 CLK320 (sold), 2007 C230 SS (gone), 2000 Grand Marquis, 2011 CR-Z, stay tuned...
I know it's off topic, but it goes with the rear-mount talk... How much harder/more expensive is it to dyno tune one of our cars compared to, say, a Nissan?

Karo, thanks so much for the contribution. Your thread has now been added to the OEM/Aftermarket modification stickies!
