Cement Block Wall & C230

2 days before thanksgiving some yahoo pulls out in front of my wife and son, she hits the brakes and swerves losing control and goes right into a wall. Both airbags deployed, everything on the front is damaged. Thank God both of them walked away without a scratch or a bruise, the car did what it was supposed to do, protect the occupants.

Working with insurance to fix/total the car

Glad you're all ok

If at all possible, try to total it. The car will never drive the same after its fixed like that. Especially with airbag deployment.

A Car
Thank god your wife and son were in a Benz at the time of collision. Just shows how much we all appreciate german engineering and MB's rep of safety. Hope it files as totalled.
Best of luck.

Glad everyone is alright

Do you have any pics under the hood? Did the engine move back at all? Was there frame damage? (looks like there might be).

Hopefully they can total it out and you can buy it back extremely cheap and fix it and just have it for a daily comute or if you have the time you can part it out.

I know you can get a good amount of money for the wheels, mirrors, seats, back lights etc

Good luck

wow that sucks at least everyone is ok. i bet that will be totaled because our w203's are not worth much any more. i do have one favor though do you have a pic with the passenger side airbag deployed? i have always wanted to see exactly where it comes out i can't find a seam or anything.

I'm not sure that it will be totalled, but it is possible.

Your brake calipers are extremely clean and new looking! Do you clean them? I clean mine and I can't get mine to look like that!

+1 on the passenger side airbag pic. Also, the '07 wheels are great, and Matt's right. Sorry about the accident. Good luck!

I can see the airbag place on my passenger side dash. It's light, but it's visible. I mentioned this to the dealer while my car was under warranty but they weren't willing to replace the dash.. not that I would have wanted that.

... are always a good time.
Thats horrible but as mentioned, glad that all are fine. Its times like these when you realize how important it is to have your seatbelts on and to have you kids in child seats if required. I bring this up because many people will let there kids out of a seat due to their complaining or crying. Btw... holding your kid in the backseat while you are seatbelted is still not appropriate. And if you were to get into a serious accident your child could be killed.

I apologize for the brashness of this posting. I am a Firefighter in San Francisco and I have seen more accidents in my 17 years then I could ever remember. I will admit that cars are alot safer and the occupants usually walk away from the accident. But then there are the accidents that the occupants dont walk out of. Adults and children. It is very hard to see a parent in utter bewilderment when the reality of the scene has not yet been realized. It is very sad.

"OP" I am very glad to hear that your family is okay.

Miguel

Thanks you all for your concern for my family and all the kind comments. They are doing absolutely fine as I write this.
I cry a tear when I look at the car, but when I think about what could have happened... I find myself crying a river.

To the posters that wanted a pic of passenger side airbag, I am sorry the car has been transported to the body shop. If you look carefully at the 2nd pic you will see that the dash itself gets torn as the airbag deploys, there are no seams that open in an organized manner. They will replace the entire upper part of the dash if repaired.
I will update as I get more info.....

Thanks again for all the positive comments and wishes.

I, too, am glad your family is fine! It doesn't look like the hit was too hard (see what 40mph does to the car at IIHS site). It might be fixable, but for your sake, I hope they total it. I wouldn't want it back.

It's easy to get full of Benz Pride in situations like this, but the reality of it is that today's cars are safe in general. There are a few exceptions but as a whole.. I don't feel any safer in my Benz than I did in my Acura TL, for example - and tests prove that to be an accurate assumption.

true but all my friends Honda's/tl's seem to have windshields cracking all the time my Mercedes windshield has taken so many rocks that it is not funny but not one noticeable chip. little things like that make you feel safer i have never felt safe in a Japanese car they always seem to feel too light. that is why i didn't get a g35/37 i can't stand them. maybe i am just crazy though
who here wants a g55 lol

I had a 2008 G37 coupe and the car felt anything but light. At 3700lbs it was quite a porker and the weight was obvious at every turn. I hated it and that's why the 135i is here now.

ok i know they weigh a lot. ok you know when you close the door to your w203 it feels solid not as solid as the old s class but are still heavy and have a nice clunk. that is what i meant don't know how else to describe it.

Sorry to hear this - great that the family are OK. That's what matters - good old Benz. Amazing the BiX survived although they might have broken tabs.
