Transmission Mount info

I was searching forever and I think they call the transmission mounts rear engine mount.

The rear engine mount is on the transmission. Anyway I got 3 PDFs. One for your tranny and one for 7G and I also got one for engine mounts.

They changed my tranny mounts at maybe 32k.

P.S. The rear engine mount does look like the pic you sent me.

Hope this is the right stuff

Presume someone sent you a PM? Hence this post out of the blue

Yes - Benz call the transmission mount the rear engine mounting if there is confusion.

Yup, it was for Matt (LILBENZ).

Thanks for clearing that up Glyn. I was searching everyone trying to find transmission mounts

Edit:
The eagle took off yesterday (sat). So it should land in a couple of days.

Thanks Karo.

Yes - Benz install the transmission & engine as one assembly so I guess they consider all three mounts as "engine assembly" mounts.

When the dealer replaced mine in March of this year (at about 43,000 miles) they referred to it as "transmission mount". Here is the link to it for the 722.6:

http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe..._8582EF73.aspx

Cheap enough. Mine has definitely bit the dust again as all the symptoms it had are back. The mount is cheap enough, I wonder how labor intensive this is? Anyone know?

Thanks a lot Karo!

Edit: Ugh.. it appears this would have to be a dealer thing. I was hoping it was simple enough for one of my independent guys to do it.

Matt - An Indy can easily replace that - It's easy - very easy as long as he can support the tranny while he pulls it out & pops in the new one. I reckon I'd knock it off in 30 minutes at home.

Do you think UPS would be willing to ship my car to you?

I'll consult with my indy mechanics soon. Thanks guys for the help!

By looking at instructions it seems easy to do yourself. I guess you can use a jack and jack stands to support the transmission when you remove the bolts. I think that's there is all to it.

I can't stand dirty hands. This is a job for my independent mechanics. Hopefully a simple and not-too-expensive one, too!

I'll come down and do it for you if you let me drive around in the 135 for a weekend

On a serious note, I doubt this will be expensive.

They probably use some type of transmission jack to hold it in place.

My car's Service A and Service B things are always done at a local Nissan dealership. you say? Well, everyone there knows me and the SAME tech does it every time, so he has learned my car very well. They're very careful and very, very, very helpful. I bring my own oil and filter and pay $20.67 in labor. The guy doesn't wear a white coat or gloves, but he treats my car as if it were his own. It never leaves my sight, as they have a huge glass wall there and he parks right in front of it to do the service because he knows I like to watch.

You should go test drive a 135i with a 6MT. It's soooo much fun!

Matt, Just curious, but what symptoms are you seeing from this?

Actually, John, there is just one symptom. Let me see if I can explain.

If you pull out of my driveway, you're on a downhill slope. You proceed downhill for a little ways and then it immediately turns into an uphill incline. There's very little flattening out. If I drive slowly, the car behaves normally. If I give it some gas down the hill, though, this is repeatable every time:

As soon as it reaches the point where the downhill part ends and the suspension compresses to start the uphill climb, it sounds like a tire is rubbing the fender lining. But it comes from the middle of the car. It's a harsh, very noticeable rubbing/scraping sound. It took the dealer 4 trips to properly diagnose it back in March when it was doing the exact same thing.

Any time I accelerate with any authority and the rear tires hit even mild bumps like expansion joints, the scraping noise happens.

I'm gonna try to get a video but I bet I can't capture the sound.

Wow, that is strange. No wonder it took your dealer a long time to diagnose.

No. In that case I like to participate.

The mount was a tricky diagnosis. I tried to videotape the noise but it wouldn't come through clearly. Then a truck threw mud ALL over my car and I was pissed so I gave up.

Damn, this sounds like a pain in the ***. Not that it's that much trouble, but the fact that it has happened to you twice in a year. My car needs a bath like you wouldn't believe, I had to pick up my friend on his farm the other day, in the rain! It gets washed tomorrow before going in the garage for a few days... then the SL comes out and gets some attention 'til Tuesday!
