B Service Questions.....

sup guys

Happy New Year

so I'm now 200 miles overdue on my B Service lol.....I called Silver Star MBZ and they said it would be like $270ish. I want to do a ATF flush too, but they said they don't do that on 5 Speeds (only 7). Also, I'm gonna have them look at this: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...g-harness.html

AND I'm gonna replace the spark plugs. Should that be good? What other stuff should I do as the car nears 80,000 miles?

and Lastly.....does anybody have a place in the LA/San Fernando Valley area where I should take my car to have this done?

Im getting kinda worried as the miles keep adding up, I need this car to last me a few more years at least......so I wanna do all that I can

thanks a ton for your input

Just do the standard B - Plugs & fuel filter. Insist on tranny fluid change. It should be done every 39,000 miles. Take no crap from ignorant American dealers. ROW is every 39,000 miles or 60,000 Km on the 722.6. I'm about to have mine done. When last was brake fluid flushed?

Call MB of Encino for a quote... If you do stop by, some "former" friend(s) of mines have done work there. The reason i say former is because one of the 4 brothers (All MBZ Mechanic Techs) kind of parted his own way from our group of friends and did his own thing... Long story short, i haven't talked to him since last year, but i'm sure we're still cool since i heard he asked about me and how i'm doing from one of my friends (which is also his). Other than that, his work and words are of an honest man. He's done all the dealership work on my vehicle plus on the side has given me eother advice he had for my vehicle in the future to maintain which is a plus for any MBZ owner to look out for.

You can ask for Jerry Reyes or his brother Arturo Reyes or his other brothers whose name i cannot recall at the moment but also last named Reyes. They've had experience in the MBZ field (Long Beach, Signal Hill, Downtown LA) and all went to school in Chicago for Mercedes Benz Master Tech. Field.

Let them know Chris Gonzalez from Hope Christian Center church sent you.

a quarter mile at a time
brake fluid should be flushed every 2 years.

Try Serge @ Hyevon Motors, he's a good honest guy and will take care of your car.

BMW's SAABS MB all have that fill for life or 100,000 except those 7 speeds. But have ou ever change the fluid on one of those vehicles at 50,000? Looks dark in comparison to new fluid. Put it this way it's cheap insurance and it can't hurt to change thr transsmiioon fluid early.

Yes - that's MBUSA BS only. If you want long life out of your transmission then every 39,000 miles. The 722.9 7G also used to claim filled for life in the US until they started failing. Stick to MB ROW recommendations where people expect a Benz to last & not be tossed out with the trash every few years.

Hi Glyn!

Transmissions is an area where I could use some additional instruction. I was suspicious about running automatic transmission fluid for 150,000 miles because I do know that particulate matter and it's binder (glue) is removed from the clutch disks in normal operation and contaminates the fluid. I questioned some PR guys from Mercedes and they said that the friction material and the fluid was engineered together as a system to give an extended service life. My questions are a) is the fluid sold in the US different than that supplied in the rest of the world? (ROW) b) is the friction material different in the US transmissions?

If they are the same, I think I need to change my fluid! I am at 105,000 miles which has been reached with only the replacement of the water pump at 50,000 miles.

Your advice about the fuel filter is sage also. Thanks for all your great input to the forum. I appreciate it very much.

The fluid & friction materials used in USA cars is same as ROW. Yes clutch packs & planetary sets generate wear debris which contaminates the fluid & clog up the filter but auto transmission fluid is subjected to high temperatures & oxidises. Benz' latest synthetic fluid is excellent stuff that desparately tries to maintain shift shock under control etc. etc. but it still oxidises & becomes contaminated & the friction modifiers deplete. Other than abuse 99% of auto transmission problems relate to either fluid condition and/or level.
