Need a little help with my exhaust
I noticed my exhaust leaking and it sounded as if it was right under my driver seat. So i assumed it may be the Donut gasket between the exhaust and manifold. I got everything off but the only thing i see is a beveled gasket type thing attached to the manifold. I pried at it with a screwdriver but im not getting anywhere with it.. i came to conclusion that is attached to the manifold itself.. What im trying to ask is Is there a gasket of some sort between the exhauist pipe and manifold? Or do i need to keep trying to get the beveled looking gastket off the manifold even know it looks like its apart of it?

Surprising - No seal ring shown at the manifold - only at the center of the exhaust. I see 2 different configuration manifolds have been fitted to the M111.

I was looking for that diagram online but couldnt find it so kudos to you! But im stumped now , what do i do if there is no gasket made or even present for it? Cause i dont know what else it can be and its the only thing that make sense..
And My exhaust is # 20 on the diagram.. Single pipe going to one inlet to the manifold

Do you see a "trail" of black soot indicating that exhaust is leaking past this joint? Generally, the gasketless joints are pretty good at sealing unless they come apart and then get corroded, or they somehow warp. I have gasketless ball/socket joints on my header collectors of my Monte, and they are very good.
One trick you can do, if you can get under the car with it running (safely, of course) is to take a piece of tissue, and hold it around the joints. When it starts to flutter, as if in the wind, you have found your leak. If you are checking near the engine, you may have to unplug the radiator fans to prevent them from interfering.
If it's an audible sound you are chasing primarily, you can narrow it down by taking a piece of 2-3 foot long, 3/4" diameter heater hose (available at any autoparts store) and hold one end to your ear. With the other end, fish it around any suspected areas for the source of the noise. You can usually pinpoint the source rather easily like this.

I presume they checked the center exhaust joint. You might have a loose baffle or broken piece of Cat honeycomb in the exhaust. Are all exhaust heat shields firmly in place & nothing touching? Is the rear gearbox mount in good order?
The M111 is a very strong engine but a little rough which is why they designed the M271 after too many complaints.

i guess that will be my next step in diagnosis, now that i think about it i have a bad feeling that it is my CAT . If that is the case i guess i will be looking into some money or just dealing with it.. I did just buy this car so i am trying to get the little kinks out of it as i am perfectionist when it comes to my cars.. Thanks for the advice GLYN M RUCK
