New Mercedes Benz Bluetooth kit coming soon
Today I spoke with Hugo at Mercedes Benz of Ft Lauderdale parts department regarding Bluetooth. He said retrofit kit is coming February 2006 and it will work with my C230SS.. He had no pricing info and I assume it will properly integrate with our phone buttons on our steering wheels. I am relieved because I have the Motorola bluetooth kit currently and it is imperfect in that road noise makes the speaker difficult to hear. I had it professionally installed consistent with commonly suggested positioning of the components.

So does this mean that if you have this bluetooth retrofit kit, and a bluetooth equipped cell phone that we could use the phone controls in the benz?
I don't like the idea of paying 1 large to have the aftermarket one installed just to use my phone over the cars system!

Bluetooth questions answered
I dont know what the details are regarding the functionality of the new bluetooth kit. I was told it will be fully integrated. Will it allow full operation of the phone without touching the handset like in an Audi A6? I can only hope.
Will it be compatible with the most popular bluetooth cell phones? Again I can only hope. It would seem like a waste of development money to make a product incompatible with the most popular phones such as treo. blackberry, motorola etc. Is it a retrofit kit for previous models? Thats what they said.

UHI Opinions
I just wanted to check in to see what everyone that has UHI is using as far as the phone goes.
My Nextel contract is up in 15 days and I am dumping to go to Cingular. I had originally had my eye on the Sony T637, but after thinking I don't really need all the features on that phone and most others.
What is the best UHI compatible no frills phone? Just looking for some pros and cons on phones that other members are currently using with UHI. Also, the phone will stay in the cradle most of the time.
Thanks.

About the UHI BT kit, any news about it???
I hope it works well on my phone (6680) my fathers AUDI MMI doesn't like it too much, I think its because of the symbian software on the phone, to modern for the MMI

I was thinking of using of Scorchie / Dean's recommended phones:
Nokia 6200/6220/6230
but that list was put out over a year ago, and figure these phones are ancient history.
Don't know if there is a new list of UHI/PSE compatible phones out there, from MBenzNL.

* You will need the Mercedes MHI Handsfree system installed to use the Bluetooth adapter. This is $765 (+ labor as most of you know).
* Bluetooth adapter costs $350.00.
* It slides into the MHI dock (center armrest).
* It only works with certain bluetooth phones -- in other words, you still need the proprietary software/MB phones to make it work.
* You have more phone options. I was told there is a Motorola Razr (silver) that will work with this Bluetooth kit. It is only $300 or so. So, at least the phones have come down in price.
This is what I was told over the phone, so if any of this information is inaccurate, I apologize.
