Smile 2004 C230 driver side door does not lock
Is there a special lubricant that can be used to help get the lock to work. I do not want to replace the lock, since I want to upgrade to E class. Will WD40 work!!

You first have to identify what the problem is before spraying lubricant into the mechanism. Does this happen all the time or only after the car has been out in the cold etc?

When you try and lock the car, do you hear any sound coming from inside the drivers door panel? If you dont you probably have a busted actuator and any amount of lubricant isn't going to help.

If the actuator tries to move the locking levers and fails, then I would recommend trying the lock-de-icing solution spray first.

I think I did not explain the problem properly. Sorry about that. I had this issue happen to me about four month ago. When I try to lock the car with the remote key, the knob will bounce up and down, until it finally locks. it makes a clinking noise, but it locks. So I spayed the lock, with WD40, and the problem went away after one day. then two weeks ago the same things started to happen again, and some time the lock do not lock. So I use the key to lock the driver side door. You can see the knob on the driver door setting higher than the others. As I said I don't want to replace the lock, since I want to upgrade to E class. Hope this will help.

it sounds like your door lock actuator is going bad day by day. I had a similar prob in my BMW .. It started off working sometimes to not working at all.

I had two in my car start doing this one last year and another this year. they both did it for about two weeks then one day started working fine and have since.

The bouncing lock thing was pretty common on early W203s. I've seen a lot of posts on here about it, including fixes.. just have to search around.

99% you will need to replace the actuator. no other way around it, sorry.

+1 - Also WD40 is a hopeless lubricant. More propellant than light oil.
