HELP!!! Fog Lights Malfunctioning
Hey guys,
So I was playing with DAS and did a setting and now when I make a turn my fog light turns on and then off. WTF is going on? This is what I did.
This is a DIY on how to enable Cornering Fogs on your 203. The first time I saw these were on a 204 and I honestly thought the fogs were malfunctioning until my friend told me it's a feature. We have always had this feature but it was never enabled.
Also if your DAS menu doesn't have this let me know and we can do it through Developer Mode
Happy Cornering,
Karo

If it does that whats the point? it lights like 5 feet into the headlight pattern and then is lost in the bright light, how does that help do anything? Sounds like a badly implemented replacement for having peering headlights.

I had the active fog light function activated on my car. With the normal fog lights it doesn't work all that well as the light pattern isn't significantly better than the OEM Xenons.
From what I've read if you have the OEM w203 active fog lights you get a different fog light lens that throws a far wider beam off to the side. I had a rental Israeli-spec Honda Civic awhile back with Xenon lights and the wider beam fog lights and they made a big difference in turns at lower speeds.
So far I haven't been able to find the wider fog light lenses in the ETK.

I believe these were actually an intended option, not sure if any model years got them. I'm pretty sure none of the sport sedans had the feature enabled, but for some reason I thought the luxury sedans with lighting package had it. Not sure. Anyway, here's a thread with some more info.

I do know other models absolutely had this feature, one that I remember off the top of my head is the CLS. Yes it looks like one fog light is out when you're using it. I don't think it's very functional however.

I had Sunil enable them on my car, and it really is a worthless option when equipped with Bi-Xenon's. Plus, I have had co-workers tell me I have a burned out fog light when they see me pulling into the parking lot. When I get my STAR system, I will disable them. Actually, the fog lights are worthless period. I will be swapping them out with HID's at some point.
Eric is right, the luxury 203's had these enabled with lighting package.

But honestly, I don't even think they work well on the new 204s eighter. When I first saw it, it really looked like the fog was malfunctioning. It didn't look like it lit up the area well.

1999 CLK320 (sold), 2007 C230 SS (gone), 2000 Grand Marquis, 2011 CR-Z, stay tuned...
It works well on the S, but it's not a fog, rather another light all together.

I think the problem with our US-spec w203s is that we have the wrong fog light housing to take full advantage of the active cornering light feature.
From the mid-cycle change guide;
Outside Lighting – Cornering Fog Lamp
• Cornering Fog Lamp is an additional light function realized with
special fog lights (61° versus 21° reflector, H7 55 Watt bulb)
• Fog light on the inside of the turn is activated under specific steering
angle or turn signal requests
• Inverse activation if reverse gear is engaged
• Fog light is activated dependant on
– Turn signal activation
– Steering wheel angle
– Vehicle Speed
– Reverse gear
• Soft dim activation and deactivation
• All functions related to this feature are controlled by SAM-Driver
à Not a version coding, unique SAM-Driver
