The only thing you need to tell an A/C person that does not know Benz cars is that the aircon won't switch on at all if refrigerant pressure is low. There is a pressure switch in the system that cuts the aircon to protect the compressor. Some Indy shops don't know this & get confused.

Took the car to the dealer. Found to be a bad evaporator. This will be the third one installed in this car. The first one at 2 years old was on account of mold. The second one blew out in the summer of 2008. This one comes 2 years after the prior failure. Luckily I have an extended warranty. However, I am taken aback by the lack of reliability of the air conditioning systems in these cars.

that weird, mines a 02 and i'm still on the original evaporator. Mine was blowing hot air too until i recharged the freon. Maybe you just got a evaporator built on a monday or friday...

I'm staggered. Evaporator failure is rare - the mould issue is not but seldom leads to replacement. Is this the same dealer? I wonder if they have got it right.
