Post Road Trip Checklist

Hi all,

This Friday I am going to be going on an approx 750 mile long "roadtrip". The 750 miles is round trip. This is my first long drive with my car and I'm wondering what should I double check prior to going? I know tire pressure, oil level. Is there anything else you guys would recommend? I just got it back from service A.

Thanks,
Matt

That's not really a very long trip, so there's probably not much you need to check. If it's going to be hot, check your coolant level maybe. And fill your washer bottle. Tire pressure is the most important because it will determine your fuel mileage.

all good advice...

...but you call that a road trip? Next year I'm driving the C 230 K from Vancouver Island to Toronto, Niagara Falls for a reunion of CDN military brats and then Québec city. And back.

Now THAT's a road trip, about 8000 miles ;-)

Last time I did it was in the 405 Peugeot, when it was a mere baby at only 130,000 miles...

750 miles is less than a day's worth of driving. 2 years ago I drove my Accord from my home in Southern California to Jacksonville, Florida, then to Acadia National Park in Maine, then to Chicago, then back to California. About 7,000 miles total, in two weeks.

You can get it done at any US dealer, but I'm not sure about Canada. They don't have free service, so the whole warranty thing might not work out right.

Or what you could do to avoid any inconveniences, is just change the oil before you leave and just worry about the A service when you get back, whether it's overdue or not. Oil change is the most important part anyway.

It's the duty of all Canadians to drive the Trans Canada Highway from end to end at least once in their lifetimes.

Seriously, the car's going to be full with my family and my kids have never been east of Alberta (though they have been to Europe). This is a chance to show them the beautiful huge country they live in, one km at a time. We're going to have to put a third seatbelt in the centre rear too (3 kids)...

As far as showing off the Benz, I couldn't care less about that! Nor, I think, could the other people who will be at the reunion

Actually, if the Peugeot 405 didn't have 190,000 miles on it, I'd probably take it again as it's a bit larger inside (thank you FWD), but at this age/mileage it's probably too risky. I do a minimum of maintenance to this car (hanging my head in shame).

Don't forget to check your spare tire too. Presumably you are all set with your eating strategy...

With a C-coupe that's easy...

It's flat !

The spare is stored flat to save space, there is a compressor that you plug into the lighter to pump it up.

Cheers, BT

Thanks for all the advice!!

But I must say, you guys are nuts

My school, work, and home are all within 5 miles of each other. I get itchy driving my car downtown and putting the miles on it and thats only like 30 miles away! I'm just a big baby when it comes to my car:p. It is my first car so I guess thats to be expected.

Ill only be over there for 2 days but I'm still going to bring my cleaning kit incase it gets any bugs or dirt on it while going over there.
