Karo's C350 Dyno Tune

Waz up guys,

Today I went and saw Jeremy from OETuning. Got to see the Gintani facility (siiiiickkkkk!!!!). I have no words to describe what Jeremy did to my car. I don't think anyone can pull off numbers on the M272 E35 like he did. The dyno graph will do all the talking. Notice this is DynoDymanics and not DynoJet .

Car pulls like a freight train once it starts moving. Jeremy mention my car is starving for air. I might go ahead and hop on the K&N bandwagon (no offense to the K&N guys. I'm sure it does something).

If someone can be kind an convert these to crank power I would really appreciate it.

usually cars loose between 25-35% from crank to the wheels. So you'll probably be around 271 to the crank Karo

its about a 25% drivetrain lost from the crank on dyno dyanamics so you should be putting down around 285-287hp crank. Thats a pretty good gain for a NA v6, not even some of the c55 guys have had that huge of a gain on just a tune.

I agree with jeremy, you can get a little more power toward the 5200rpm + range if you can get a higher flowing intake. The curve starts to flatten out after about 5200rpm, looks like its starving for more air.

Great numbers karo...now supercharge that sucker..lol.

The new shop is gonna be pretty bad *** from what i hear. All those turbo'ed and supercharged m3's made wish i had a m3..lol.

Dont worry about what's at the crank bro. What you make at the wheels is what matters.

287HP to 214WHP? The 135i that can put down 290WHP from a "rated" 300 must be really under-rated. Video on YouTube shows stock 286hp Acura TL-S puts down 229whp, but I think that was a 6MT.

Important question. Is this base line with the fuel set at 93 octane through DAS. If you did not do that mod you would have seen an even bigger gain from the tune.

Nope, I set it to 91 in DAS (original is 89) and now it's 91 as well. Cheap *** California only has 91 (and race gas )

No doubt that additional 23 lb-ft feels good. Good on you, Karo.
Still have some laps in the bank at K1 Speed when next you’re able to catch up.

Seems MB continues to be more than a tad bit conservative on their mixture strength and spark timing settings.
Rightly so, as they’ve a warranty period through which they’re compelled to make their customers whole.

Yes, they are indeed under-rated.
Seldom put much stock in absolute output numbers as an honest yardstick, though. Manufacturers and aftermarket tuners have been fudging numbers since the inception of the dynamometer. Who proves his might on a dyno? They’re merely another tool in the arsenal for validating A-B-A adjustments. ‘Strip trap speed and/or 60-to-130 strength ultimately tells the tale, IMHO. Will certainty concede there are plenty about far quicker and faster than I.

My lowly ~290WHP (measured during pre-cat Horiba WOT AFR verification) C has repeatedly trounced N54’s during closed course circuit events.
Completed each session well ahead of ‘chipped’ machines - when they inexplicably resorted to limp mode. Tough titty.
Know that’s not your cup of tea, LILBENZ230. Just saying.

Mr. Ruck,
The AKI in California’s year-round oxygenated ‘Premium’ formulation is akin to reconstituted lemon juice.
At least its RVP keeps CARB satiated. Knock wood, 20° BTDC and 18 PSI of additional atmosphere enhancing BMEP might be tempting fate with AMG’s hypereutectic pistons. Has yet to consume even half a liter between ten 10,000-mile 229.5 OCI’s.
Must admit that tipping the fuel jug is de rigueur when getting after it around these parts.

Thanks Splinter, it does feel good. I've never been in a C32 or even driven one and now I can somewhat imagine how much of a smile it brings to it's owners faces

K1 definitely sounds good. I still have 2 races left. We should definitely set something up. It'll be great to catch up with you guys and to see Eric's new M3 (take it to Gintani Eric and have them supercharge it!!! (they had Paul Walkers track M3 there ) . Last I heard SeaCoupe is down for the count. Might have to take another trip near the beach

the 290whp number your quoting for the 135i is a dynojet number. The dyno dynamics dyno, dynos much lower, similar to a mustang dyno. The 335i dyno'ed 255-265whp on the same dyno karo dyno'ed on.

To give you an idea, the e92 m3 stock only dynos 315whp on that dyno.

On a dynojet, karo would hit closer to 235whp.

The dyno dynamics is a great tuning dyno because of the extra load but not a great bragging dyno like a dyno jet or dynapak

karo, when you get a chance, you should get a dynojet dyno.

Karo, you keep missing an important point on this setting that Glyn pointed out. The setting in STAR is for RON not AKI, so the 93 setting for RON is really ~89 AKI for here in the US. Set that to 93 ASAP.

I have mine set to 93 and was in CA last month and had 3 tanks of glorious CA 91 octane gas, with a HEAVILY loaded car, and it ran just fine with the setting.

Congrats on the tune, that is a very nice improvement

Yes John - Exactly!

Karo - just stay on the same dyno in as close to the same ambient conditions as possible or it's all BS. These Mickey Mouse dynos are useless for absolute power readings as is shown by variation between makes. They are OK for comparison work but you should monitor barometric pressure/air density & IAT (inlet air temp) and recalculate results for changes.

I'm impressed with this guy because he is pushing the power and torque curves nicely across the rev spectrum rather than taking away somewhere to boost somewhere else. My kind of tuner. The gains you have got are probably pretty realistic. Don't read anything into the absolute power or torque readings because they are crap - guaranteed.

Pity you can't get a less restrictive airbox for the car.

Yeah! The "midnight port'er" as we used to say in good old racing days when "stretching" the rules a little. AKA "cheating"
