star emblem issue
I was doing some cleaning over the weekend. I notice that the chrome has some kind of oxidation on it. So I got my bug / tar remover as I found that this is a less abrasive cleaner. Well, I got the oxidation out but it also took out some blue paint on the emblem.
I thought this emblem had clear coat on it to prevent this from happening.
So, I am wondering, is there any clear coat or protection to the finish paint on the emblem?

No protection on the blue laurel. New star complete is cheap from RMeuropean. About $25 I think. I'm about to fit a new one to my car. Stone hit it hard & saved my windscreen but broke through the chrome. It's now starting to corrode living at the coast.

Replace it every 3-5 years and you have a brand new shiny star

If coating is preferred, I think we have to make sure that coating will stick on the chrome too, may have to clean the emblem with ...thinner before coating?
Agreed with Glyn, I bough original emblem from MB for $25 and just change it. Old emblen can be played around, making a flat emblem out of it or paint some funky color

I think it is doable but may not be so good becuase it will be a coat over chrome. If the coat is scratch, it can look ugly and cannot be polish until the coat is removed.

haha, that must be actually what someone is doing it with my star emblem. It was broked off in the middle of the night with some nice key scratch too. , btw flat badge at a dealer is too big, isn't it? It won't flush the hood. the flat badge emblem that fits nicely can be bought from a sticky post here.

Someone said it doesn't fit well it fits perfectly over the old hole.
Just washed the car and no leaks..
Part number

23.13$ at the dealer
