Aftermarket GPS unit, input please.
I'm not sure if it's just my installer or my unit, but I'm not getting any information on my dashboard. My phone keys on the steering wheel doesn't even work. I contacted the supplier and still waiting for an answer from Dynavin. Regarding data on dashboard, I was told that the CANBUS doesn't transfer data to your dashboard. BT quality is great as far as I know. No caller data when someone calls you, only on the unit itself. Didn't really pays attention to the illumination of the keys, but you can adjust brightness on the unit itself.
I know that because I use the same navigation software on my smartphone which I use as a standalone navigation.
On the other hand the speed signal is available to the unit via the CAN bus. On the same bus you can also find the illumination signal, the only problem is that the unit is not able to read and decode this signals.
Maybe in the future with a software update?
@cd-i
I don't think they'll release any update at all! Based on reading other forums on the unit, the Mercedes unit is not being supported by users as much as the Audi and BMW ones.
EDIT: I emailed them and they emailed back 13 minutes later - that IS excellent customer service. They are willing to repair my COMAND but the price is $495, same as simply purchasing one of their refurbished units outright (no exchange as you stated).

I'm pretty sure its the same concept at the C class unit. Can anyone let me know because I got a coupon code for $100 off from ottonavi.com
indeed there are two "console types" prefacelift and post facelift, the differences are quite visible: the clock's layout is changed after facelift, the buttons on the upper control panel and on the climate control panel are not rounded on corners, after facelift they have a square look. But this are the differences on the outside. Electrically speaking the comunications between various modules inside the car is done via CAN after facelift, previously beeing done via D2B.
Overall these are not stopping points for you if you want to install a dynavin unit. The "only" price you have to pay is that you will loose the steering wheel controls. There are also some inconvenients regarding the wiring harness that needs to be modified, but, in my opinion these are "normal" problems when you try to install an aftermarket device onto a car.
On the other hand, you can always drop an email to dynavin and ask them for details.
If I said stupid things please correct me.
. I like to thank Philly c230k for his post and pictures of the unit. They were real user pics that I was looking for before I would commit to buy one of these units. I like to post some of my own pics of this unit installed in my car. I have the V5 Dynavin which has the newer UI. It is truly plug n play for the Audio 20 system. I was a little nervous ripping my car apart the first time. It is a little tricky getting everything to fit. but aftering taking it apart 3 times (forgeting to connect the antenna) and adding a reversing camera yesterday. It's pretty easy now. I recommend a high quality torx driver #15 and a modified #20 (if you end up stripping a bolt head) for the DIY's. If anyone needs some help or info feel free to bug me
