Anyone with a c230 compressor coupe Help oil leak!

Dealer is claiming that my front cover seal is leaking and is claiming that the labor itself will be $2200 and part approx $800 I truly do not get a good feeling from this I feel like this could easily turn into alot more money...Ayone out there own a c230 Kompressor and has had to have seals replaced on their engine causing oil leaks. Deale claims due to the type of engine I have ??? I will get another opinion I am in alexandria, virginia

Let everyone know where you are from, you may get some alternative recommendation for dealers to check.

I just had a leaking front crank-shaft seal replaced and it was nothing like that. I want to say somewhere around 450.00 parts and labor. It may well depend on what is leaking, though. Still sounds high to me.

Glyn -- I will be curious to see how close to right you get, again.

See my reply to your PM

These prices are outrageous - Both leak & lights.

It's either a crank seal or the front timing cover gasket. I would bet on crank seal first.

Lights likely a solenoid.

Recommend taking to a good Indy that knows Benz.

BTW - The front crank seal is $9 from RMeuropean & the timing chain cover O Ring is 84 cents. I simply don't know where these robbers get their prices from. Yes there is labour involved but come on !!!

I just checked my invoice: right at 15.00 for the seal and 3 hours labor. It was a bit under 350.00 for the front crank seal, at the dealer. So if they tell you it is the front crank seal....

I have never really needed more then maintenance on my car so never got the chance to try them. Good to see another w203 that is local.

Interesting - In my PM to the member I said I thought I could get the radiator out. Get the pulley off - replace the seal & reassemble in a leisurely 3 hours.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
Don't use the stealer er dealer.
Find a compentant indy mechanic.

Glyn why would you remove the radiator?
You know you can remove the pulley without doing that, even on an auto?
Check the threads on ASP pullies.

Is there something special about our crank seal?
How does it go in?
I got oil leakage too, but at 163K that's to be expected.
I haven't taken the time to determine from where,
but the steering fluid seems ok, so must be oil.

Back in the day, I did the seal on my Toyoter 20R 2.2L
Removed the pulley, removed the old seal,
cleaned the surface good, and lightly tap the new seal in.

Is it any different on our cars?
