So I recently took a trip to the dealer in order to get some info on when the 2011 Navigation CD (NOT the 1 disk DVD) will be released. The dealer said that they only have the 10 disk bundle pack for 2010. They said that Mercedes has discontinued updates for the CD Navigation and a 2011 update will not be available.

I thought this was a little weird. Why would Mercedes just abandon making updates for customers who have the CD based navigation in their car? So I contacted MBUSA. To my surprise I received the same response.

NO more updates for us Mercedes owners who have the CD based Navigation.


Anyone else encounter this problem? Is there an inexpensive solution to still get updates (Without changing the entire GPS system in the car)?

Maybe it's possible to rip the DVD version to CDs? I'm not sure since I don't have the Command system, worth a try though :P

The 2011 set is due out in March. I just bought a 2010 set because I didn't wait -- I had used the same logic December '09, and just never gotten around to going and getting it...

My parts guys hadn't heard anything about it being discontinued, though. My bet is that your parts guy just wants to sell what he has in stock - where as mine had one 2010 left, but offered to call me when he got news on the 2011's if I wanted to wait.

I hope you're right. I contacted MBUSA and the rep there said the same thing the parts guy did at the dealer. "There are no further updates planned"

That may be, but they are simply relabled NavTeq CD's. I would be surprised if NavTeq stopped, but I guess we will know in March.

Don't be offended but your car is now 9 years (model years) old. They can't support forever you know. I'm surprised they support more than your "standard" 3-5 year first owner lease/ownership term.

Wait for the rumored 2011 and if it never comes then get the 2010 (if you don't already have it) and know that you won't have to waste your money in the future for new maps

Oh not an issue of offense, at least from my end. I can see MB stopping rebranding the CD's and stocking them, but when they do that I would expect them to allow NavTeq to release them directly.

Technically, NavTeq already has the data for the other maps, they have the routines for trimming it down to the CD format for MB, and they have the ability to make the CDs. Technically, there is no reason anymore for these to never be available anymore. They should be able to provided them and make a profit on the individual sale indefinitely. Of course, it would be an order and produce as needed situation, so the lead time might be a couple of weeks.

Of course, with all that said...there is no assurance that they will follow logic in all the decisions. Of course this is the third year I have heard the "won't be available/not supported going forward" rumor.

Try ordering a shop manual for a late 70's Honda motorcycle. It takes the time for them to print the file and have it bound, but they can still get it for you. It isn't the same slick pages and color photographs you would have gotten in 1980, but it is still what you need.

What's the latest on getting a 2010? I am still running my 2006 and boy are the roads out of date.

You could get a 2010 any time you want. Just go to the dealer and buy it.
