Well, I haven't gotten the tire yet... I assume they used run flat as a verb.. anyway, the nail was in the tire off-center, but not by very much. I called Discount after I left there and told the guy I want to look at the old tire before they put the new one on. He assured me that he had two techs look at it and it definitely was not repairable, that there were bits of rubber that looked like coffee grains inside the tire, and that they would never put a tire that damaged on the road again. Whatever... I don't know who to believe anymore. But that tire price is correct. MB wanted $260 for it. I am getting it for $225 out the door, balanced, tires rotated, etc. because that's Costco's price and Discount will match it.

On the same topic, what do you guys think about getting a "warranty" on tires? Discount offers it for $40 a tire, and if the tire gets any damage at all, for as long as it has tread on it, they will replace it for free. Of course they offered it to me and I haven't decided. My husband says no way, but I am thinking that paying $40 to have piece of mind, and to get a $260 tire for it isn't a bad deal. Am I missing something in that logic? I do mostly freeway driving, with tons of construction, gardener, pool guy trucks on the road. Scottsdale is the construction capital of the country. Anyway, I am thinking that it is worth it, since I keep my cars for many years. Feedback, please?

I'm sure they meant that you ran the tire while it was flat wearing out the sidewall rubber and breaking down the bead. A run flat tire has internal ribbing running around the middle of the tread and stiffer sidewalls. If you saw the insaide of one you would know that it was different.

no, i wouldn't take that deal. the michelin pilot sports are fast wearing tires and may last around 15000 miles. so you need to replace them sooner than most non-zr rated tires.
i plan to get kumhos for my normal zr rated tires - much cheaper ($100).

Well, I just drove over to the local ETD, and talked to them about it. The goose egg won't be covered under Conti's warranty, as it's not a defect goose egg, it was caused by whatever I ran over. They had actually argued with Michelin about it about 30 minutes before I got there with another customer. They showed me the Conti dealer's book with the pics of what's not covered, so I believe them.
Which then brings me to the question: do I just replace my tire with another one, or replace the entire set, and give someone an early Xmas present of 3 contis (if anyone wants 'em)? If you think I should get a new set, recommendations, please!

Exactly what I figured - it's not covered as it's caused by driving on bad roads I'm bracing for a goose egg any day (you remember the JC roads?).
You shouldn't drive around with one as it can hatch at any moment
What about the Michelin Pilots? How do they fare in rain (hydroplaning)? My friend is delighted with the KUMHOs he popped on his WRX. I drove them, they track real well at high speeds (Montreal - JC two weeks ago).
I might be interested in the Contis as replacements, if you name a price.

Tommy, it depends on
what you are looking for in a tire.
3 season performance (ie no snow)?
In the TT Forum which has the same tire size as the C7 -- fav performers are Bridgestone Pole Position S-03s, Michelin Pilot Sports and Pirello P Zero Rossos.
Some people like the Kumhos but complain that they are much noisier over 70 mpd than the ones listed above and not as grippy -- but are only about $100 per tire. May last longer too.
But the most treadwear you can expect is 20k-23k miles on those 3 above if you don't play speed racer every day. Those are soft tires and subject to collecting nails and such. But the S-03s are great in the rain and great in the grip. See the review at tirerack.com
If you want all season performance, longer treadwear and not as much grip, Michelin has the Pilot A/S which are quite expensive but will last a long time. Try tirerack.com for recommendations and reviews.

Just looking for 3-seasons with very good dry and decent wet traction. Already have the world's ugliest steel rims with Vredelsteins for winters.

Why replace all four? Just get two and put them on the rears. Buy a wider size and take credit for staggering under your "master plan." Just don't buy Contis.
You'll fit right in here in Texas.

Bob,
Because if you have not noticed, Tommy want to spend as much money on his car as possible. By the time he is done, he could have bought a Ferrari.

Tommy, for 3 season performance
I would go S-03s. They look great (aggressive) very grippy and great in the rain (See tirerack professional review). I like them more than the P Zero Rossos and they cost less ($167 per) than the Michelins. If you want less grip and a little more treadwear (I got 23k out of em) try the Rossos.
Here is a pic of the S-03s with my TT. Hope you can tell from the pic but they have an aggressive pattern

Can't tell you about the warranty.
But, from talks with tire people in the past, driving with a bulge or "goosegg" is NOT safe. Put your spare on ASAP.
PS Put the new tire on the rear, regardles of where the original tire was placed.

Now, I was only paying ~ $8 a tire for the warranty (on $50 tires). I'm not sure I'd pop for $40 each on the Pilots, given their short life span & $260 price tag.

yes, ask any tire shop...if the inside of the tire is all chewed up because u ran the tire while it was flat, no one will repair it. what size pilots are these anyway? we had replaced a 245-40-17 for 268 + mount/balance so 300 on our c36, 200 miles later, we had a nail...the nail had been too close to the edge of the tire (actually took a chunck of our rim), wheelworks replaced it free of charge cause we had their gold protection plan... i asked them how they make money like that, they said only like 25% of the protection plan customers actually ever encounter stuff like that.

Well, ladies and germs...
I went with the S-03s. Thanks Duffer for actually posting helpful info, instead of the brainfarts from the usual cast of characters. The reviews at Tirerack are just too damn good to pass up these tires. I hope to have 'em on Monday.
Nice color on the tt, btw!
Columbus, I can bring the tires to the meet on the 30th; you buy me lunch and they're yours! Sound kosher?
