My gas sipping C-Class
I like Tirerack too. Been buying from them for the past 6 years.

However, I have bought from local stores for my C230....Only because I waited for chords to show and didn't want to wait for shipping....

Another company I'm a big fan of is edgeracing.com
These guys are awesome for wheel and tire packages.

The most recent set of tires I bought for the Benz are the Falken FK452s (i think that's the darn name).....not quite as sticky as the Contis, but pretty good otherwise. we'll see how long these last. as this is my 8th set of rears and 6th set of fronts.

Go online, get prices, then bring them to a local tire shop and see if they'll match them or beat them, but make sure to include all costs (mounting, balancing, installation, and shipping from the online places) on buying from them vs. bringing in the set and having them install them - they will most likely give you a break on the labor charges if you buy from them.

I've bought from tirerack.com (got good prices on sways, rims, and struts/springs purchases from them too), vulcantire.com (very good prices on Falkens), and my local shop when they're competitive.

I always recommend tirerack, only drawback is finding someone reasonably price to install them.. We have a place here in Ohio called Conrads. Nice thing about this local tire chain is that you are quoted a price out the door. No hidden fees, like tire disposal or valve stems. Also guaranteed install in less than 30 minutes and one more nice this is free roadside assistant, flat repair, balance and rotation as long as you own the car.. Not a bad deal. maybe costco or NTB may have the same package.

This is a good way to go. I just bought a set of tires and I saved about $160 using this idea.

If I were you I would leave Florida, move to California and buy tires from Tucker Tire, great place, cheap tires, quick service.

Did research at Tire-Rack and Mavis and other sites but ended up buying from Mavis because their local shop is convenient and supportive: Free no-appointment rotations. If you DIY, either will work.

try eBay...I got a full set of pilot sport for 350 delivered...99% of the tread...many people and shops have "take-offs' in their possession from people who upgrade rims on relatively new vehicles.

I saved a bundle using TireRack last time I purchased. Usually I go local, but the price difference was staggering, and no tax.
I really am digging these Bridgestone A050 Pole Positions. Ride as good or better than Pilot Sport PS2. And stick like crazy.

I asked House of Imports if they would match Costco. They would, so I bought a set from them. I got the factory correct stems and weights on the wheels in the process. The warranty is pretty good too, but you have to have the original invoice to make a claim.

We were looking more for a brick and mortar establishment

This is my wife's vehicle. She had a myriad of bad experiences with Goodyear, their lousy tires and worse service with her prior car, a domestic make. That vehicle had wheel balance problems from day one and they persisted. Based on those experiences she would not want to order tires over the internet and have a shop mount and balance them. If there was a problem the tire seller and the tire installer could point fingers at each other.

The dealer quoted what I believe is a crazy price for tires. Heck, the tires are little hoops to begin with. I just want to go to a place, get tires, have the proper stems and weights and be done with it.

Well the question is who's a good tire company?
Who make good tires? Which ones to buy?
Tirerack has lots of reviews on lots of brand.
Decide what you want then source it locally.
Check the local tire dealers by Googling them.
Often individual shops have reviews on various sites.

Those little hoops can cost $50 or they can cost over $200 each.
Nankang is the low price leader. Then it's that Korean brand...
General is the #1 rated tire on tirerack "for the money".
They'll last longer, but overall I think they're crap. But....

It just depends what you're looking for. Price, ride, traction, longevity.
Depends on your priority.
I've had Michelin, Conti's, Fuzion, and General, and now after much research, I got the Bridgestones. The #1 rated tire in that category,
(Super Mega Ultra High performance...or whatever)
and the price is less than the Michelin's and they are as good or better for
60-75% of the price. But they'll not last long I suspect.

If your wife doesn't drive fast, doesn't care how fast the tires turn in, or if they have the best traction, and expects them to last a while, she could be very happy with the Generals.

I bought a set of General tires from Tirerack.com. The Generals were very reasonably priced. I don't know much about tire performance, but to the novice, the Generals have given a "softer" ride quality than the OEM tires. I don't know if this is a reflection of the Generals' performance ability, but that was the first thing I noticed driving after installation.

Tirerack usually offers the tires at a reasonable price.

I usually employ Costco. The benefits of buying from Costco are; best price (if you include installation) and decent warranty. However, there's one drawback, Costco uses a fairly inexpensive wheel/tire balancing machine.

I usually employ Costco because of the convenience, but if I were particularly particular, I would only employ tire installers with this equipment.

http://www.hunter.com/pub/product/balancer/index.htm

This tire/wheel balancer offers side to side balancing, and is considered one of the best on the market.

I did my research when I bought my rims and obiviously had to get new tires along with it, and came to TireChoice shop down here in Florida. They might be a chain, but I got some Nitto tires and a 3 year unlimited wheel alighnment for $800, considering nitto tires a some of the best....

Are you down here in the jungle?

I did my research when I bought my rims and obiviously had to get new tires along with it, and came to TireChoice shop down here in Florida.

How far down in Florida?; it is a looong state; do you mean the urban jungle of Miami hyphen Dade, Croward and Palm Beach Counties?

I would not be buying aftermarket rims ever. We are just looking for safe tires that would furnish a comfortable ride.
