Question How load is the C200 Kompressor meant to be in morning?

I'm still getting used to the car, never having an European car before.

When I start her up in the morning, the engine is quote load. I know it's hard to write a description. Just seams loader then my GM car.

Yesterday morning there was a screech from the engine, sounded like fanbelt. Dealer said he will sort it if it happens again but this morning this noise didn't appear.

Next service B is due in over 11,000km

If you guys want, I'll post a YouTube next time I start the car in the morning.

From my understanding the cold start in the morning is due to the catalyst? warming up
if you want to be safe you can post the video but they are a bit loud in the morning

The M271 engine sounds like a bucket of bolts until warm. High idle to heat the Cat & excess air injection into the exhaust for emissions don't help. A loud Clicking sound is usually the EECS purge valve - not a problem but replace if the clicking irritates

Noises that you should listen for & care about are a few seconds of timing chain slap until the oil pressure comes up. Squealing sounds that are generally a Poly V Belt tensioner failing.

If the timing chain starts flapping around change it and the tensioner. It is a single gang chain & if it jumps you will have bent valves. Not common but it happens.

The belt tensioner starts as an irritation but if it seizes then it throws the belt & you loose all accessories it drives. Power steering pump, alternator, aircon & waterpump etc.

Good to know. I will keep an ear out for this. I got a warranty so hopefully if it does need repair, it can be done under this.

Video as promised.

Take into consideration there was a closed carport door in front of the engine which in hindsight, I should have opened to better gauge the sound.

The video started pretty much two or three seconds after the key was turned

Sounds as if the belt is noisy the click.. click..click in time with the belt revolution. You could alway ask for a new one under warranty.

If that doesn't silence it , look further.

Thanks, for that. My next B service is at 11000km so I might ask about it.

Anyone else want to jump in and confirm if its ok to wait until next service or have it looked at sooner?
