Cool Got bluetooth! Pays off to do your own research.

So I went into Mercedes-Benz a week ago and asked about a Bluetooth phone module for the iPhone (my car is pre-wired for phone devices). Over $500 was the quote, and was told only one device will do the job; mb part b67876168.

Did some eBay searching and found part b67875877 a lot cheaper. Asked an MB person if this is compatible, no. eBay seller says it was so I bought it anyways. Came yesterday and am making calls in my car. iPhone 4 fully compatible and downloads into the stereo system with full address book. All up Inc postage; $185.

Morel of the story, don't trust your dealer. Not saying they were lying but all they go on is their computer system. The device I got came out before the iPhone so the iPhone was not listed as compatible device, but it is.

They also quoted $600 to connect my iPhone for music. They tell me the AUX lead I read on this forum is not available for my model. Took it to an independent and yep, AUX is compatible, pre-wired as this forum said it would be. Part on order and will get it installed when it comes it. Gosh I love this forum ;-)

Welcome to the world of MB, where there are 8 versions of the same part, and buying online costs 40% of the dealer's price. Learn to DIY everything you'll be on your way to saving THOUSANDS (literally) of dollars.

+1 with not trusting the dealer. They'll tell you almost everything (other than installing a CD changer, and maybe doing your oil and brakes) is impossible. To be fair though, it's probably just for liability reasons as 99% of the owners out there have no idea what they're doing.

The iPod kit is about $200 and about 1-1/5 hrs of labor if the dealer did the install. This is not to be confused with the "aux" jack input that is significantly cheaper.

Also, to do the phone install, it actually costs about $1000 because of the additional parts required. Just because it is "pre-wired" doesn't mean that it is phone ready. You also need the completer kit and several other pieces, not including the cradle.

I got the phone kit installed when I purchased the car and I did the iPod kit myself a few years back.

Not sure. Didn't do anything to install but plug it into the armrest.

Yes, if it is pre-wired. There is a little plug in the armrest.

This is a pic I found on the net of what it looks like. If you dont have this, I guess it will need to be wired and I wouldn't know where to begin. My w203 came with this already installed from factory:

This is what it looks like with the dust protector on:

I understand that the two puck types are functionally identical. I gave the larger old one and it works fine.

Once paired the iPhone works seamlessly with the onboard phone interface. Audio mutes when a call comes in. The phones ringtone may work through the audio system too, but I'm not 100% certain on that.

I think my install parts ran at around $450 using mostly dealer parts. A bit of eBay shopping should knock a fair amount off of that.

My C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan 2005 has a cable coming up from my center Consol going into the bottom of the top of the Center console, but there is no plug or anything. I just see a wire. How does this exactly work? Do you plug in these Bluetooth adapters and you just pair your'e iPhone with it, and it connects to your'e Car Stereo. My Stereo has the phone button and all, so I know it is "ready"

What would I have to do?

Okay, so I have some confusion...
I went to look at a few on ebay, and so far the ones I've looked at are 2005 and up. I have a 2003. Th adaper is the arm rest looks like the attachment.

Pretty sure that all this is cool, as it looks like all the wiring is in place.

My confusion and questions are this...
The adapter for the 2005 and up C Class is different than the 2004 and earlier models?
This being the type of adapter I would need?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Mercedes...item1c219849f8

Is there a micraphone somewhere in my car? Where would that come from? If the phone is pre-wired in the armrest, would the mic be wired in my car somewhere? Or, does the phone act as the mic?

And finally, does my musin on my iPhone come through to the radio with this adapter? Or is this strictly the phone?

Thanks everyone! I'm just trying to weigh the pro's and con's of the adpater VS saving up for a new head unit.

For 2002-2004, the only OEM options are completely outdated. I have a 2003 and picked up an Argos MB-1. AFAIK it is the ONLY Bluetooth solution that ties in seamlessly into the factory radio. This is one of the most useful mods for my car as I use the phone pretty much everyday.

2005-2007 will NOT fit. MB changed the communication protocol in 2005.

Yes 2000 - 2004 you need a D2B campatible device.
2005> you need a MOST compatible device.
