need to change my water pump now my 2003 c240 4matic wagon has the cooling water preheater so this means that the lower rad hose connects to it then a VERY short piece of hose connects to the water pump I doubt i cand line the pump up and connect this short hose

has anyone done this???

the pic looks like 1 bolt holding the pre heater on to the engine

also my pump came with a rubber gasket and a metal flat one are they both needed???

You only need to use one of those two gaskets. When you remove the old pump, you will know which one to use - likely the metal one. These pumps are used on many models, some use rubber gasket and others use metal gasket. So, the manufacturer packages both. On my (M112) C320, I needed to use metal gasket.

I didn't have to remove the radiator fan or anything else when I changed the water pump on my C320 (M112).

Removing the radiator fan will give you more room to work with.

nope its on the canadian models

its a block heater

here is a view from the top

and here is the preheater unit the short hose attaches to the water pump then to the preheater then to the lower rad hose....

ill never get that short hose back on so i figure ill unbolt the preheater from the block and once disconected ill remove the WP with the pre heater attached and deal with it on my beanch and install in reverse

Can't you just disconnect the hoses at the pump and remove it? I don't see the problem you think you'll have. Am I missing something? First time I've seen a coolant heater. The water pump R&R is easy.

well yes i could but being the hose is SO short getting it back on well i line up the new pump and gasket to the block is going to be a PITA as its hard to reach and i wont be able to get around to the back of it

coolant heater came on many canadian cars

the plug (cord) was the optional part.......

It may be easier than the non heater version because you can easily access and loosen just the lower clamp of the short hose. Once you get the belt and pump pulley removed you'll see how accessible everything is.
