With proof of ownership Mercedes should be able to look up your radio activation code against your VIN as long as it's still the original. There might be a trick around it but I don't know it.

If it's like other car manufacturers, you need to pull the radio out and give your dealer the code on the back of the radio.it can be done over the phone.

THE C350
Very easy fix for mine. You need to take the fuse out on the back side of the radio while it is still plugged in. Left fuse out for 10 seconds put back in and it was good to go. I asked my dealer about this once and they said that our radios did not have a code to unlock them but the generation before ours like in the 01 e class did have one. But you know how reliable the dealers are for information

THE C350
Strange Don't know what to tell you my radio only said Prod once and that is what I did to fix it. But the next time I disconected it I instaled my Command unit. My radio is now in another members car working fine without a code so I don't know.

I had the radio replaced in my C240 a few days ago and I was told by the dealer that no code was necessary. I have taken their word on. I used this method a few years ago on my 1997 C230 which had a radio code. I have a battery charger which can connect via the cigarette lighter. Before I removed the battery I plugged in the charger via the lighter and then removed the battery. When I connected the new battery every thing was fine including the radio and clock. A point to note that my C230 had minimal electronics when compared to my C240. On the other hand my SLK is stored for the winter and its radio needs a code if I allow the battery to run down.

Running a quiescent current device while changing the battery to keep the car powered up is always a good idea with these cars. The cig lighter socket will only work on cars with a direct wired socket.
