Post Saw the C204 Coupe up close today. Whats your opinion?

Well, I stopped in at a MB dealership today on route to my destination. I noticed they had the new W204 coupe out in the yard.

I quite like it. It's very nicely made and looks the part. Pity there was never a w203 non-hatchback coupe.

I did very much like the interior of the face-lifted w204 which this c204 has.

My first thoughts was that I'd rather get the sedan then pay extra for the 2 door, but then I found-out that there is only a C350 coupe [in Australia] and the sedan goes up to C300 [in Australia]. So I couldn't really compare apples with apples.

The MRSP price for the C350 in Australia is $99,900AU. For that price, no thanks. But then again, my W203 was around $75,000 - $80,000 when the first owner bought it, so with depreciation, the coupe may be a future purchase. Although if it is considerably less, I'd rather go for the w204 face-lifted sedan with a factory sports kit... if not an E-Class (another beautiful car). For now, I'm lovin' my W203

To sum the C204 up; Very nice Mercedes, very nice.

For an Accord, it's a little expensive.

I like that they're trying to be a bit more sporty with it. I don't like that it's not available as a manny, which goes against that attempt. Nice try, but if I'm spending that much money on a two-door, I'd rather go with a 135i or 1 M, and get a true sports coupe.

That does look a lot like a two door Accord. Not bad looking at all, but there are many other coupes out there I'd rather have that are more sporty.

I like it. Quite a bit. It's a steal when you consider that the E-Class Coupe is also based on the same chassis.

Plus its equipment and electronics are pretty damn nifty.

Mine goes into production on Sept. 5

now THAT is a MB

i saw a couple of the new slk's in italy and wasn't impressed. the back lights look nice, but the front didn't seem to flow well. i think the MB sigh is too prominent, but thats just my taste.

Phil is a damn baller! Geeeez man!

But really, I like it. It looks good but I agree with the others that it looks like an Accord.

As I mentioned, we dont get Accord coupes in Australia. I googled it and it brought this one up. IMO doesnt look much like it except that they are both coupes.

Yeah I don't agree that much on them looking the same they are both coupes that have smooth designs and all cars sort of look the same these days in some ways. except for the G wagons no one would build something so ugly and beautiful and wonderful but Mercedes

The CL is amazing. I saw a 2011 designo matte grey CL65 in the dealership and was just floored by it:

I agree, the C Coupe is definitely important for MB. They're trying to make the brand sportier and appeal to a younger crowd. Unfortunately, aside from the C63, the car is still slllooooow.

It's got a character crease down the entire side in exactly the same area, the rear windows are nearly identical, and the overall shape is a kissing cousin to the Accord. To me, they share too many similarities on the outside.

Of course, on the inside, the Accord is more ergonomic, less feminine, would be more reliable overall, hold its value, and not to mention be many thousands less. But I'm sure that someone will go into the whole "rwd is better than fwd" argument eventually, so I'll stop there.

What's the price differance between the CL and C-coupe in the USA?

The CL500 is $337,000. Hard to compare it with the $99,900 C-class here in OZ.

are you kidding? better clean out your glasses. Both cars have a very similar roof line and the rear side glass and c-pillar is a dead ringer. Even the curved beltline looks similar

I think that you are the only that does not notice the similarities as it is written everywhere - blogs, forums, magazines, podcasts

It is unfortunate that the design is so uninspired, and un-original. They should have paid some lineage to the 2 CLK's.

Perhaps because I haven't seen a Honda Accord coupe in the flesh and that pic sort of shows the front end. I can see the similarities in the back now that I googled more photos. I mostly read Australian online car reviews. Because we dont have any Honda Accord coupes here I've not seen it compared.

Here they are from a side view:

Here's the comparison to the 5 series:

Yeah they look similar, but let's be real. It's going to take more than a similar looking exterior to replicate a Mercedes. Honestly, the new W204 looks much better regardless of the similarities.

I posted the other day this on other forum so I'll just copy and paste it since I've tested this car.
Hi! the other day I had the opportunity of testing the new c coupe for an entire day, the unit I tested was the 220cdi automatic with bluefficiency without amg package.

When I arrived to the deliver and saw it was diesel I thought it was going to be a bit boring. However when I saw it I was astonished, the front looked really furious!! lol. The inside in comparison to our coupe has won a lot, the seats are FANTASTIC!! semi buckets seat, very comfortable and really stops your body from moving when cornering comes up. The steering wheel is also great the radius of it is perfect and sporty similar to the amy one. The driving position is also great and has all the adjustments needed.

When I left the deliver, it was a bit strange for me to use an automatic car since all my cars are manual transmission, however some months ago I tested a CLK with automatic transmission also.
About it I just have to say it has improved very much from our coupes, the time it takes to change is much faster from gear to gear and really takes all the power of the motor.
When you just want to save fuel, it goes in the better gear. It has a button which say ECO, with this activated the car doesn't consumes mostly anything, when you stop in a cross or a stop the motor stops when you want to continue it turns again immediately. With it I was able to do a combined consumption of 5.8 litres in mist (road and city).

This is the part you all like sporty lol. A always thought diesel = boring.... how wrong I was. This engine 220 cdi it pulls like mad!! I tested with a few BMW 320i a 323i(e46) and a e90 320d and the result was they were smoked very easily the owners were astonished they all were impressed how it pulls.
As a person who loves cars I had to test it completely so I went to a mountain roud where rallies are done. I firstly try to make my self to the car. After this a tried in cornering, first corners no strangers, no understeering nothing it just went to where to wish him to go. After this I wanted to find his limit so I started to enter the corners more harder, it just started to appear a bit of understeering but nothing that couldn't be controlled. Asuming it had the stock suspension which it has an sport configuration it wasn't but at all, with the amg package this must run like a kart.

After my night run I had a ride where people usually go with their cars, and have to say I was the centre of attention everybody looked at the car that front is incredible. Ladies just could stop looking lol they didn't look at eve's subareas nor BMW, the C coupe was the special member!!.

In conclusion the c coupe is the real successor of the sport coupe improving it everywhere. Handling, interior, material, finishes, etc. But there is a thing I don't really like about the car, is the sensation it gives you when you ride it, its all so perfect call that it made me sometime feel a bit boring because everything was controlled. If you have in mind of changing your coupe for the c coupe the change would be great, it's superior, If you are of those how really have passion in your cl203 keep it.

If anyone has questions you are welcome to do them. Thanks!!
