Tire Shop and Brake Pad q's
guys,
got some questions:
1. my dealer told me that my hole (caused by nail) is closed enough to the side wall and they suggest to change all 4 tires at
a tire store.
what brand, which store (I am in Atlanta) and how much does it cost including labor for 16" standard tires for my C320 2001 model?
2. they mentioned that my brake pad is less than 10%, should I change it? (it;s $200 including labor).
thanks

If you can hold off for a day or two, get Porterfield brake pads, hardly any dust, slightly better braking.
As for tires, depending on how badly they are worn I would just replace 1 or 2 at most. If you are close to needing 4 then check tirerack.com for pricing and reviews of tires. If money is not a problem, many on the forums like the Bridgestone S-03 or Michelin Pilots and for a less expensive but still great tire, the Sumitomo is pretty good from what I hear. Tires for that car will probably cost about $500 out the door for direct replacements and about $700 for the better tires.

hi,
did you refer to the total prices for 4 or only 2 or only 1? ($500-$700)
my dealer suggested because it's better to change 4 rather than 2...

I meant that to be for all 4 installed on your car with tax and fee included. For example at Tirerack.com, the Bridgestone S-03's are $135 a piece, the Michellin Pilot Sport are $168 and the Continental Contisport which many sedands came with is $75/tire. Don't know what they'll charge for shipping or installation. Like I said, figure on $500 for equivalent tire to what you have now and $600-700 if you want to try something better.

Why don't you post a picture of where the nail was and I or someone else can tell you if they're being truthful. And get some shots of the amount of tread left too.
As for the brakes, don't worry about them until you get the warning light on your dash. There's no reason to replace them early, unless you want to go to Porterfields that dust less.

Whether a dealer will install non-OEM parts depends on the dealer. Some will, some won't.
Aftermarket street pads won't void the warranty. Use of racing pads might. Improper installation by you or a shop other than the dealer probably will void the warranty for the damage caused by the improper installation.

Buellwinkle, which dealer?
