2006 ML350 back from dealer after 4 weeks,now back for oil consumption test!,2003 C230 Sport
Exhaust popping
Hey I was wondering if any of you guys running high flow cats on your C230k get any of the popping sounds from the exhaust.Like the new C63 does. Not the deep v8 sound but the pop sound when you let off the gas? Thanks

I drive the racism out of BadDebt. ;)
If you want that pop and grumble, remove all the restrictions...

ie. muffler, resonator, and secondary cats.

If you want to hear "popping' listen to a Pitts 6 cyl Lycombing engined biplane come in to land. I don't think they have injectors ,just open taps with the consumption of 80 litres an hour !

Oh God I cant even begin to describe how much I love the sound of that o cars and was thinking of this today. Im not sure I would do it to mine since the C230's arent very aggressive cars, but the sound is just heavenly in larger engined V6's.

I know a lot of v8s get the pop noise because they are running a little rich. My friends mustang use to do that and gave the backfire pop really loud.

The other thing that causes exhaust pop is aggressive cams running large overlap. i.e when inlet & exhaust valves are open at the same time.

I'm not sure his use of the word "pop" is accurate. I think a better word would be burble. My C230 burbles a little when cold, but of course, nothing like a C63..

Thanks for the feedback guys.If I remove the middle resonator will that increase the sound? Or will it hurt torque? Funny thing is I at stop light today and heard an low popping sounds. I noticed that my tailpipe were dirty looking. If I could get that sound I would drive my car too It blow up.

05 c230 kompressor SS 6MT & 07 BMW 335i
kleeman headers, hi-flow cat, no resonators, 2.75" pipes and a free flow muffler and youll burble and pop every time you come to a stop.
