Off Topic, but this is where I know people

I've already posted this in the Off Topic section, but I know the guys on W203 forum better. If the Mods have an issue with this I will remove it.

I'm going to ride 150 miles... on a BIKE!

LOL, for those of you who know me, you know this is NOT what my life has been building up to, but it's for a really good cause. My work sponsors a team in the Sam's Club Bike MS ride every year, and this year my boss asked me to join.

Each person on our team has a minimum goal to raise $300 for the National MS Society. I want to blow that out of the water and raise $1000. It's 30 days away, and I'm only at $120.

If you can help, please do. This is a great cause that helps people living with Multiple Sclerosis, they really do change lives. Anything you can give helps.

The link below is to my fundraising page. It's as easy as clicking over there and going through the secure processing page.

I'm happy for this to stay here. I have friends with MS - It's a worthwhile cause & Mike is part of the W203 family.

Congrats and that's cool that you're doing it. Get paid next week, so will donate then, assuming my car doesn't break down in the meantime.

Even though 153 miles isn't killer, in TX in May, you've got a whole host of issues. I hope you're already out there getting used to things. Get used to hydrating and get it out of your mind that you're drinking too much water. I used to do MS tours from NOLA to MS when I lived down there, and it does sap your strength. Good luck, and don't die.

Just entered my donation. Thanks for doing this, Mike! Hopefully an end to this horrible disease will come soon!

Being in the medical profession its always great to see people caring about a cause! I'll place my donation next week when I get paid so I can give all I can. I'll get my gf to donate to, she's always up for giving to a good cause.

Guys thanks for the support! I knew my MBWorld family would back me up!

The funniest thing is that I've been training to build muscle for the past two years. My goal is to compete in a bodybuilding competition next year (the Ronnie Coleman Classic). So training for this goes almost completely in the opposite direction!

Tommy, I'm drinking 2 gallons of water a day as part of my training regimen, and have been riding at least 20miles a day. I've got the muscle to do it, but as anyone who's ever done sports knows, the more muscle mass you have the harder it is to do cardio specific work. That's my big challenge right now.

I can tell you all that those silly looking cycling shorts make a HUGE difference! I did my first two training rides without them, and felt like someone had beat my sit bones with a baseball bat!

If I can get an MBWorld sign made up I will definitely do that! If not, I'll just make sure my W203 is washed and pretty and take a picture next to her at the end of the ride... or borrow her hood emblem and hold that up during the team photo!

Hi Mike,
I'm loving my wheels!!! I thank you every time I look at them.
I know you got some sweet wheels to replace them so I know you're not missing them too badly!
As I said, I really do appreciate your doing this ride. I know four people off hand with MS - three at a pretty advanced state. This means a lot to me but a whole lot more to them.

Yea riding shorts make all the difference in world. Make sure you have tire liner so your tires have more protection and won't puncture on the littlest things

You're right, I don't miss them THAT much, except when I buy tires and realize it's much more expensive to buy 18s.

Just a quick update. I'm up to $190 now, so only $110 away from my minimum goal!

My wife and I have been doing training rides almost daily, and my step-daughter broke out the camera before yesterday's to take some pictures (mostly so she could ridicule us for our outfits). Enjoy, and please keep the criticism constructive ;-)

No pictures were taken when we got home from the ride... and that's probably a good thing ;-)

BTW, Phi, I love how all the riding short manufacturers seem to put their logo on your @$$. I'm going to order some custom shorts that have the logo on my crotch... keep things interesting!

Oh, and last but not least... I saw this picture, and thought "fat man in a little coat" (done in Chris Farley's voice)

I feel sorry for those little wheels...

It's just the bicepts throwing you off

I just reached my minimum goal of raising $300!

A huge thank you to all who donated, and Venessa and Mark for kicking it over the $300 mark! I've gone ahead and raised my goal to $500, but the big goal is still $1000. So if yo haven't donated yet, don't worry, there is still time!

When is the fundraising deadline? You caught me at a bad time, as funds are tight. Just dropped $5K for surgery on my dog But, I am sure I can find a way to throw some money your way.

John, man I hope your dog gets better quickly! I love my dogs, but can't ever imagine spending $5K for on surgery for one of them. The ride happens on May 5th-6th, and they stop accepting donations (from this event) on June 6th. Obviously you can donate to the National MS Society any time you want.

I went on a training ride last night, and the team took me through a section called the "Happy Hills", there was nothing happy about them to me! I found myself wishing for the lower gears on my mountain bike.

So, all in all yesterday I lifted chest at 5am, tris and glutes at lunch, and then went on a 30 mile training ride last night. Oh, yeah I slept like a baby!

VVF, thanks for the support brother.

I'm considering having a jersey made with the MBWorld logo on it, and have all the screen names of the people who have donated from this site put on it. Would there be any problem with that John?

Mike,

I don't see any problem with that. I can pose the question to the guys in the Mod Cafe if you want, or you can just ask for forgiveness after the fact

I don't have kids and my dogs are my family, so I don't even think twice about spending the money. But, don't think for a second, that doesn't hurt. That was my new TV fund, and now it is gone.

Just sent you a donation. You are required to post some video and pics

Thanks for the support John! I can definitely do pics, not so sure about video. Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to buy one of those Hero cams.

BTW, I bought my last TV two years ago. My wife nearly ripped my heart out for what I spent on it, but I had just learned that Pioneer was no longer making the Kuro, so I went out and got one! It would have sucked if one of my dogs had gotten sick that week... I sure would have missed them.
