Mine also appear to have a light leak since I also have a slight build up of gunk around there. BTW those wires by the alternator should have a plastic shield around them to protect them I don't know what they do but recommend getting some protection for them.
Could you get us a picture of under the air cleaner on both sides.

On my car the plastic got old and brittle and just started to come off on its own. You just need some heat resistant plastic/rubber cover to keep it from chafing.

I just did this as well as the spark plugs on Saturday. Took me a while as I was taking my time and thoroughly cleaning everything. I went ahead and did the Oil Reservoir as well where you will need a GASKET MAKER SEALENT!
Please advise that you also purchase the 3 PVC (purge Valve control) tubes as mine all tore apart when you have to remove them to get the valve covers off.
Spark plugs were easy! I used the 17 mm. spanning wrench and got the wires off JUST PRIOR TO PULLING THE VALVE COVERS OFF!
New Bosch 4 spark spark plugs ROCK!

Is your crankshaft position sensor defective? I can never understand people who change parts that are working. I have to ask, how do you know the new one is good? If the installed part is working, you know it is good. The position sensor is not like a belt that has a finite life, and should be changed based on time or mileage.

It already faulted once when it was 104 here in Houston and the car hesitated and refused to start. Had to cooax it a bit and it FINNALY DID! Went to Advance Auto and they showed me the crankshaft position sensr code... check engine light cleared, but the code remained...
For 18 bucks, I will fix it.

The Wiki has R&R on valve spring replacement & resealing the circulating breather covers which effectively cover this.
You don't need a DIY on the valve covers. Pull off the aircleaner. Everything is exposed. Remove valve covers & clean them up. Fit new gaskets & reinstall.
I recommend you use a thin coating of Yamabond 5 or 6 on those damn gaskets as they frequently weep.
Good luck!
