Question sway bar bushings...

My car makes squeaking noises from the front suspension when going over speed bumps, etc. and I see from a search this may be related to sway bar bushings. I'll be taking the car in for maintenance but wondered if this is covered by warranty or will I be out of pocket? Any idea how much to fix this? TIA

Yeah, most likely its the sway bar bushing. MB has devleoped 3 different versions of sway bar bushings since 2002. I guess if you take your car to the dealership, they will put the newest bushings for you. It will also be covered under warranty since there's a service bulletin issued for this noise. Even if its not, the bushings are only CAD10!

excellent!

my car developed this problem and was looking to find some info on it.. otherwise I'm afraid that the dealer wouldnt be able to replicate it when I take it in..

yeah, mine's worse though.. it would sometimes creak under braking

pmonag, do you hear something that sounds like a creaky door?

thanks for the responses...

I saw that thread with Harris et al. talking about sway bar bushings so I figured that may be my problem. Anyway, good to know I'm covered with warranty. Harris, did you have to take your car in several times or did they fix it first time? I have to drive an hour to my dealer, so I hope they fix it in one shot(P.S. checked out your website - looks good. If I lived in Vancouver, I could spend alot of money there!)

If you have to drive an hour, call first and talk to a service advisor. They should know about this problem and have a pretty good idea that it is bushings. Have them make sure that parts are in stock before you come in. And then schedule an appointment. If you do all this, then you should be able to get it all done rather quickly.

This is a very good idea. I would suggest you to do that as well. Let me see if I can find out the part number for you when I am in the office tomorrow.

The dealer never changed the bushings for me because I have the Evosport sways and the bushings provided by Evosport were the 1st generation ones & those are the noisy ones. I have to buy the lastest bushings from my dealer myself, thats why I know there are so many versions.

I just posted this over C-sport:

Update on the clunk/rattle.

Had the car in today, they did service "A", enabled tunnel mode, replaced the cracked button(this part has been sitting at the dealer waiting to be installed since Feb ), and 'investigated' the clunk/rattle/thump noise from the front suspension. Now, on the phone they said 'tightened something, wasn't the bushings", but after looking at the service reciept, it was a bit more involved than that. I'll post the part numbers if you guys are interested. And yes the bushings also got replaced. Real bummer? They dented my grille. Yup. New one on order. At least they were honest about it.

BTW, got a Mini Cooper as a loaner Love that little car. I did some hotdoging thru the local twisties, I'd rate the standard Mini as handling as good or better than our coupes, with the "S" version clearly out of our league Anywho, getting back in the M111 powered coupe felt like boarding a rocketship compared to the CVT hobbled Mini. Pretty neat to have an "automatic" with six ratios...but damn was it slow off the line.

So which was it, continously variable ratios, or six times-variable ratios? Is it one of those ones that they make it feel like it's shifting?

Both.

In "D" it does the CVT thing. Sounds like your clutch has failed
Absolutely gutless off the line. Worse than the Murano or the Saturn VUE(both can have CVT's), in terms of that 'rubber band spooling up" feeling.

Smack the lever to the right in "D" and youre now in manual mode. Push up to down shift, pull back to upshift. Six simulated gears now at your disposal. I don't how many of you guys use the "touch shift" in your cars, but I found this to be an utter waste of time. Just get the real thing.

My C240's doing the bushing noise thing too. It was fixed last year at my "A" service and it came back when the weather warmed up. I think they only lubed them last time. I'm going in for "B" service on Thursday and they're supposed to fix it -- I hope for good this time.

Mine was done yesterday with 203-323-21-85. May be model-specific.

We'll find out tonight if it does the job as I only had the problem after a real warm-up, usually as we turn onto the road where our house is. Sorta announce our arrival.

It is sway bar bushing...

I left the car today morning for service A and also told them about the grinding noise from the front (more so on the right front). They just called me few mints. ago and said the car is ready and they also fixed the noise by replacing the sway bar bush kit. I am on the way to picup my car. Let's see how it feels now.
