Cranking but not starting any input will be appreciated.

Hi there guys

After reading a lot of threads I started working on the Merc.

Last week I cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner and the car was driving fine, and suddenly on an incline the car cranks but does not start.

I thought it could be the CPS, unplugged the unit behind the Firewall/Air box and it looks fine no oil residue.

Took of the tapit cover checking the timing chain and it looks fine, got new plugs in the beast, and still no starting.

Any other advise, someone can share with me, I can hear the fuel pump and it looks like there is pressure on the fuel line.

THE C350
CPS could still be issue even if it looks fine. I would also see what your fuel pressure is while cranking.

I just had the same problem with my 03 C240 and it was the CPS. There was no oil to be found, so don't just use that as your test. There was a debate I saw about people who think you should just replace the CPS for the heck of it if your car has some miles on it. I don't know the exact pressure, but it should be like 55-60 or around there.

Ok my baby is fixed now, the problem was timing chain skipped 4 teeth on the right top camshaft sprocket. bent 4 valves, and the two camshaft sprockets.

The sprockets is the most expensive part on the

Got new valves, guides, tensioners and new CPS.

Car is driving like a beast now.

Common problem with the M271 engine. The minute you hear cam chain rattle at startup that shuts up as the oil pressure rises you should pull a new chain & fit a new tensioner. The M271 uses a simplex chain that stretches over time.

Apologies for the late reply.

VVF: At the moment it has 200000 kilometres on it.

mis3: The total cost was R17000 converted to dollars will be 1713.80 US Dollar, but the big problem is the cam shaft sprockets, that is the most pricey, from the dealer it is 806.33 US Dollar EACH, there was an engineering shop whom refurbished the sprockets for much less than the initial 806 dollars. Got it for 604.87 dollars for both, but gave the old ones back.

Glyn: Funny Enough Glynn, I did not even remotely hear any noise, but that may be because the music is always so loud

I wont make the same mistake again, to costly.
