Advice on Changing front Discs on W203

Hi Everyone,

Can someone please advise. I am taking my 2001 W203 C240 Auto in to my local (non MB) garage this Friday to have them replace:

Front Pads & Sensors
Front Discs (MB told me they were lipped/cupped and would
soon need to be changed)
Rear Discs

I'm sure they will do a sterling job but as they tend to work on older (non MB) cars I just wanted to ask you guys if there was anything to watch out for, especially with the discs (as I kow the pads are pretty easy). Is there a simple sequence list that someone has on how to change the discs together with any critical torque settings? I know I probably should use MB for the work but they just quoted me nearly £400 for the work and my local garage will do it for £240 and still use genuine MB parts. I know the local garage will not have the MB tech guides.

Cheers,

Paul

Changing brake pads and rotors is not brain surgery. Any fairly decent do-it-yourselfer can do it. Rotors can usually be turned even though Mercedes would rather have new ones.

Also, you do not mention rear pads although you mention discs. If you replace discs, wouldn't the pads be replaced too? How many miles do you have on the car? Rear brakes are usually good for a lot longer than the front ones. Does it really need rear brake work?

If you look at:
http://www.mercedesshop.com/e_class_brakejob.htm
it give a idea of the work involved. It is a different model but not that much different in the work that needs to be done. I always say it take more work jacking up the car and taking off/putting on the wheels than it does to do the actual brake work.

There are AMG brakes available from Evosport. You can't get bigger discs without changing the calipers. The AMG kit is bigger rotors and calipers to go with them.

How many miles do you have on your C? Just curious. People use potorfields I think for the rears. Also, dont ever turn your rotors.

What's wrong with turning your rotors? Is that the same as resurfacing?
