how long did your battery last?

My car is 10 years old now, 250k km on the original battery. It just died twice in the past week when it sat for more than 24hrs so I am thinking I need a new one finally. I will probably just get the cheapest on because the car will not last another 3 years. Curious what experience others had.

Wow, what a battery. What make is it ?

Buy a cheaper one but make sure it is of the correct capacity & is an AGM. going on what is said on this forum, your model requires the correct battery for trouble free electrics.

My OEM Varta is 6 years old.

My C240 battery is now 10 years old & still going. Can't last much longer but still tests well.

Just changed mine last month. The stock battery lasted a good 11 years in my C200.

What should voltage be on startup? Mine show 11.9 in the morning (subzero temperatures)
60k miles soon.

wow

That's awesome battery life! My 2006 C230 Sport sedan OE battery lasted me 7 years, 101K miles. Replaced it with a gel battery at $229 with 5 year warranty.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I check the voltage on my start up?

Thanks VVF - still, cold weather probably brings it down a bit (?)
Will check the battery cells and refill with distilled water if its low, if that doesn't help I guess I might be in for a new battery soon..

It is false economy to buy a cheap battery for your car. Things happen when an under powered battery is used. Everything from windows rolling up slowly to the ESP malfunctions. Most aftermarket batteries do not meet the current specification for C class cars. The original specification for a flooded battery needed a 100Ah rating. Don't be confused by specs touting cranking amps or cold cranking amps. They are rather worthless in determining the Ah rating of the battery. Benz has recently started to suggest that flooded batteries are no longer desirable and have started to push AGM technology. It has advantages, but mostly to the sellers. MB roadside quoted me $ 285.(A005 541 09 01) for the newly specified 95Ah battery. Silver used in the AGM battery contributes to this high price.

Looking in the EPC by VIN I found part number A000 982 33 08 shown for my C240. I bought this battery at a dealer wholesale counter for $ 138. This number is still specified for CLK and Sprinter Vans. With the amount I saved, I'll enjoy an evening a Lawry's Prime Rib.

There are Bosch and Varta batteries that are similar to the factory AGM technology batteries at just under $300. Recently it has become impossible to ship car batteries, so you either need to collect it in person or have the seller deliver it themselves.

I replaced mine after 8.5 years, was still working but had a dead cell in it so slightly lower voltage. The electronics seem a bit "peppier" now with the new battery in the car

$165 from the dealership ... I installed it myself.
