Confusion over H&R Cup Kit

I have noticed alot of the members in this forum are using the H&R cup kit. I have been making some enquiries into lowering my car further (I currently have eibach springs in) from 2 fingers.

Does anyone know how much lower the cup kit could bring my car down? Would I be able to bring it to the point where my tyre is just under the lip or even lower?

Anyone recommend other cup kits?

Hi, what would be a softer ride (less bouncy/more comfortable) and least likely to bottom out with 3 adults in the back--coil overs or cup kits? Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

only advantage of coilovers are that they're adjustable, but i believe the ride is going to be a lil bit harsher, but will outperform the cupkit...

I thought the cup kit is a coil over?

I'm using Cupkits right now and I'm not really satisfied, the front still have a gap between fender and my tires.. but the ride is very comfortable..

In 2-3 weeks maybe I will sell mine if you interested.. : )

I think the only thing different between cup kit and coilover is that coilover is height adjustable. I've used to have Eibach springs on my car, now I'm using H&R Coilover and I couldn't be happier, the car now corners flat as a pancake and the ride is better than I thought

Were you using the sport eibachs or the pro kit? Mine I believe is the pro but its just not low enough.

The cup kit is supposedly twice as low is this true? Thanks for the help

So you're saying you can adjust the height of the coilover so the car is as low as you want? I assume there's only a certain range you can work with. My thing is that I like the stock height in back, but want to lower the front a bit so that the space in the wheel well is the same as the back. I'm not sure if the coilover would be the right thing, or if I'd just be better off cutting the springs.

Cutting the springs is always a stupid idea. You can't tell what the spring rates will be after you cut them. If they match, you are incredibly lucky.

Lowering one end of the car is not a good idea, because you are changing the relationships between the front and rear roll angles.

I don't know what you mean by "spring rates", but I'll take your word for it. I always thought that it was very common to cut springs to achieve the desired height?

As far as lowering one end of the car, what about those who lower the whole car but the front is lowered more than the back so that the space (or lack thereof) in the wheel well is proportionate? Doesn't this have the same effect?

Cutting springs is very the bad! It makes you go bouncey bouncey bouncey.

One of the guys I know is using a coilover kit on his car and it is very very very low until his bumper scrapes just about everywhere.

The car that my friend is using is a HSV (aussie car) not a merc but I can take a picture for you if you would like.

Esputmono let me know when your planning to sell I might be interested. The coilovers would be lovely but they just seem to dam expensive.

Sorry for the late reply. With H&R CO you can lower the car from 1" to 2.2". Right now my front has only 1 finger gap and I believe I can lower the front for another 1". The rear tyres are tucked in 1/2 a finger and I can also lower the back for another 1".
I don't wanna lower the car to the max as I don't want to compromise the ride quality.

So the LEAST it would drop the car is 1" in both front and back? An inch or 1 1/2 inches would probably be perfect in front, but I don't really want to drop the back at all.

Back to cutting the psrings, the car cannot be aligned once the springs have been cut. Plus it's rather dangerous. You're right, it is very common, but very stupid in the same right.
