Hey Phil, did you start contacting some of the pump stations on the list?
West Covina and Pomona are good to go, La Habra just took it off of their pumps

But I definitely want to try it especially after what you said about its effects on your RSX-S...

Less than 91 in my Kompressor, the only time I ran it,
resulted in a major loss of power, since the ECU backed off the timing considerably. I'd say I lost about 50hp.
So that was just in a pinch and the last time.
Now, on the normally aspirated loaner benz's I've had, 320, 240, 350, I didn't notice a difference. Seemed to run fine. The computer will compensate, to preventing pinging.
Premium is around 3.15-3.30 around here, norcal.
I know one Arco station that was at 3.01 last I looked.
Going up daily.

I ran 100 octane once, but didn't notice a difference at the time with the butt dyno. Sears point race track....

Yup. that's correct. There's one gas station in the valley that used to offer it (76 on Ventura between White Oak/Reseda), but don't know if it does anymore.

Stupid mistake, I put in 87 gas
Any ideas on what to do? Called the dealer and they said it will run bad and get it down to 3/4 tank and put in 91. And do that about 3 times and it should be okay.
Anybody ever use STP octane boost or is that a bad idea? I would add it and still do the above. Thoughts?

Stop by an auto parts store and get some octane boost, pour it in...use about a half tank, then fill with premium. Problem solved.

no worries man the computer will just retard the timing a little bit to compensate for the pre-detonation. you'll lose about 12 hp in the process but it wont hurt your car if you do it once in a while...but don't make a habit of it since lower octane fuel wont burn efficientlety and will deposit carbon on your valves

Just drive it normally. I've driven with entire full tanks of pure regular (driving HARD too, hitting the twisties with the boys) and other than a VERY slight loss of power, there's no difference at all! In fact, I noticed my mileage actually INCREASED by about 5-10% when I used 87 for some strange reason.
Our cars can run on regular if need be, it says so in the manual (in Canada at least). Nothing to worry about.
Personally I don't trust octane boosters, I dunno about STP but a lot of those octane boosters generally contain acetone, which attacks plastic/rubber parts (though maybe the concentration is relatively low). This is why MB does not recommend them.

Don't worry. Sometimes you pay for premium and get regular anyway. The car will adapt the engine control system to run fine on the lower octane gas.
Don't add anything. Mercedes does suggest that additives are of no proven value, and advise against their use. Octane boost will do nothing. Detonation or pinging will not occur because the electronics will adjust to the fuel in the tank. The car will not perform as well, but it will not run bad. I would use half the fuel, then fill with premium, then use almost all, and fill again. During the first half tank, avoid wide open throttle, jack rabbit starts, climbing mountains, or other driving that puts stress on the engine.
Relax, you'll be fine. Buy a beer with the money you saved on that tankful, and keep an eye on which grade you select in the future.

Thanks everyone. Drove it today about 30 miles have not noticed anything yet. Will drive it to about 150 miles and refill with the good stuff. I just hate when I do stupid things. Gas is so damn expensive here in Sacramento I did not even notice I saved anything.

Listen just drill a hole in the gas tank and let it drain out, then go to the nearest store and buy a pack of juice fruit. then chew it and place over the hole. problem solved if you need further advice for something so stupid like this just take the bus, lol
