Note to SUV drivers, get the f*** out of the left lane. Stop driving them like they are sports cars.
I had the pleasure of watching some jacknut in a SUV, completely gut the underside of his suburban using a gaurdrail. Dumb SOB was flying in and out of every lane around cars with no regard for the gurth of his truck. He tried to exit at the last second from the left lane, lost control and went spinning towards the rail. He gracefully removed all four wheels, suspension and all, oil pans and all. Go slick, fool was on the cell phone. He left a wonderful impression of his face on the windshied.
Back to topic, I wish they offered Pewter for the 02' C230K. I would've gotten that.

About the gas prices.... I needed gas quickly so I couldn't drive down the freeway to the $2.25/gal place. I ended up paying $2.47/gal for premium, it was about $38 for my tank. I wish I was paying $1.70 like some of you east of here. Hopefully some day it will go down.

I am a little confused as this thread is about saving money by putting in a lower octane, yet you spend a lot of money buying a premium brand like MB and don't you get very cheap fuel over there anyhow.
We are approaching £0.80 a litre over here £3.60 a gallon. $5.40 approx

I usually get my gas at Costco (Chula Vista off Hst or the Market St. one). I know there are cheap places all over Chula Vista but I only use them for the other cars. Thanks for letting me know about the one by MBSD, now I know a cheap place in that area.

Here in OC, the highest octane I've seen from Chevron, Mobile, 76, Shell and Exxon is 91 (I fill up at these stations). Is there 93 octane available in other parts of the state/country?

in dallas, you can get 93 everywhere. 7-11 offers 87, 89, 91,93. I usually use whoever is cheapest. My driving is almost entirely city, and i doubt i'd see much mileage difference from one brand to another. My lead foot and the traffic are greater factors i think.

One brand of gasoline looks like another to a chemist. The oil companies often trade refined product to avoid transporting it. There are two ways to compute octane ratings. One is called "Research" and the other is called "Motor." For the same molecule of gas the "Research" rating is higher than the "Motor" rating. In the past most car makers specified "regular" gas as 91 RON (Research Octane Number) and many pumps throughout the country still display this number, 'cause it is higher, and everyone wants higher! The medlers in the California Legislature deceided that with the banning of tetraethyl lead (an octane increasing molecule) that an average of Research and Motor octane numbers should be shown on the pump. The results is that 91 RON is now being displayed as 87. Premium gas was 100 RON has been demoted to 91. These are about the longest chain hydrocarbons that can be produced, and comply with air quality rules and affordability.
For our friend in OC, a 76 station in La Habra sells true 100 Octane racing fuel! La Habra Blvd, west of Harbor. BVRooooooom!
Chevron is the best choice of fuel if you want your engine to stay clean, and not polute your oil. Tankers for the no name stations (Sam's Club, 7-11, Costco, BJ's) even fill at the Chevron refinery rack, but do not receive the additives Chevron puts in their gas. The additives usually supply more oxygen so the fuel burns better, and this reduces polution, and keeps your engine clean. You can feel the difference with Techroline in a properly tuned car.
Chevron does not market gasoline in Michigan, but all of the Big 3 automakers haul, via tanker, gas from California to do emmission testing and EPA mileage tests.
Until we can take energy directly from a hydrogen atom, gasoline is not bad, Eh?

I'm from europe and all gasolines are 95 and 98 octanes!!!
and there is the shell v-power 100 octanes (also other brands offer 100 octanes gasolines)!!!
Why in US the gasoline have less octanes than in Europe???
I had a w202 c220 and with 95 oct. gasoline the engine didn't run like using the 98 oct., I'm using in all my current gasoline cars (only my 01' jag xkr
) 98 oct gasoline and in my all other cars (diesel versions) a rich cetane diesel (also shell v-power diesel), and it makes some difference
