AMG Style III 17"

I just received delivery of my 2004 C320 sedan and would like to upgrade the wheels and tires to AMG Style III's. I've checked w/ tirerack.com and they have a package for $2338.00 including S03 225/4517 f - 245/45/17 r or $1556 w/o tires. Now, I've seen the rims at the stealer for $339 per rim - $1356 w/o tires. Was just wondering if anyone else knows a good place to get the AMG or know of anyone who's upgraded and have no use for the AMGs. Are those good prices? Any other suggestions for wheels?

After reading many posts on here, I think I'll be heading down the Eibach spring kit with the 17" as well. Hope it'll look good.

I should've just bought the rims before delivery! Oh well. Next time.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

South Florida

Located in South Florida, just trying to get the best deal and the best look for the car. I figured since AMG were made for our cars, they would be preferable. I've seen some nice Brabus and Lorinser on the board but they are up there in price range.

I don't want to go to other rim manufacturers, since they could be put on any car. Would I want to see the same rim on a old beat up Nissan or Honda Civic? Probably not. Just my 2 cents.

I asked because what you're doing doesn't make sense. You just had delivery and already thinking of changing wheels. If you change the wheels to 17", it also means that you'll have to lower the car by changing to shorter springs or even new shocks that can handle the new 17" setup. The sport sedan already has these features, so why spend more? ... unless you like the wood interior finish. Also, sport sedans get blue tinted glass. You might spend at least $4k-$5k or even more to get the sport handling to your satisfaction. So why not buy the sport version from the start?

I know it's your car and not my business if you upgrade sooner but I can't justify spending additional precious $$ to a brand new car.

Wow, Lynn - hostile today! One of the noobies call you a girl again?

Couple of things:

most older Nissans and all older Hondas (non-jdm) have 4 lugs, not 5, plus, heavy rims aren't usually picked by those owners anyway - so no realistic chance of seeing them on those cars.

I do like the IVs better as well - look less dated. Old school AMGs are good on older models, but look weird on new ones, imho.

Oh, and the Eibachs will give better than OEM handling - see other "sport suspension" owners who have upgraded, so don't see doing it as a waste of time - now, upgrading, then realizing that the "sport suspension" is too girly, THEN going aftermarket - now, THAT would be a big waste of time and money.

Now you tell me, I could have saved $330 and not lowered my car when I got the 17's.

Oooo...I have an idea for a new section of the forum...

"Newbies helping Newbies"

How great would the threads that come out of that section be?

Lynn,
I guess you're right... I may not know what I'm talking about but my receipts don't lie... $2500 for wheel/tire upgrade and $1500 for Eibachs installed.

Sorry if I offended any of you guys/gals but I'm saving for my next car; either a C320 coupe or a CLK320 which I plan to buy 2005. Just spent $40K on my wife's 2004.5 C320 Sport sedan so I'm not in the spending mood. Also, UPS just unloaded new set of C7s and snowtires; that's another $1.8K down the tubes.

$1500 Eibach's? I've seen them for $250 and a Mercedes tech is willing to install them for me for $50.

I like the Style IV - I'll check those out too. An earlier opinion regarding older style AMG's was well-received. Thank you. Just thought the older ones were easier to clean! I'll talk to TireRack tech and see what kind of deal they can swing.

There have been members that were willing to sell a set of AMG III for $1300 and another for SLK320 17" for $1000. I'll keep checking to see what I can find - not sure if the SLK will look good. I think "LYNN" provided insight in another post.

Thanks guys.

Pancham, I wish you had discovered this forum earlier. Whoever told you that you need to lower your car to make the 17" tires and wheels work lied to you. Many C's arrive from the factory with 17's and MB doesn't change anything on the suspension. Whoever charged you $1500 for the Eibachs and installation really, really ripped you off, unless, you got Koni shocks, too.
