Anyone scotchguard their cloth seats?

Has anyone applied ScotchGuard to the cloth seats? The mb web site doesn't list whether the seats have any type of coating.

Does the scotchguard change the feel/texture of the upholstry? Does it come off on your clothes when you sit, or does it evaporate?

I'm getting the Oyster cloth. How has that been holding up for people, dirt wise? I know it'll only be a few days after getting the car that I start eating in the car, no matter how much I swear I won't do it.

I have the oyster cloth I have been very careful with it but it still seems to show spots. I have decided to go with aftermarket leather being installed next week. I am disapointed in the cloth.

I have oyster cloth too and I am not happy with it either. It seems if not protected well it will be a big problem in the near future no matter how careful I will be -including not eating-

What kind of leather are you getting and from where?

He is going to Classic Soft Trim. They have factory installation centers and independent dealers all over the country.

Having scotchguard in both my house carpet and my miata car seats I can assure that it has no effect on texture and no effect on stain prevention.

If you read the can of Scotchguard it will have a warning that says something like, "Test this product on a inconspicuous" area. This is just in case the Scotchguard causes some sort of reaction with the material that would cause a darkening or staining. I have never had Scotchguard cause any problems on upholstery or carpet, but it always wise to test a inconspicuous area just in case.

Come to think of it, with the rain falling today, it's time to Scotchghaurd my floormats.....

you could get seat covers... either the above or the classic sheepskin

my only comment about the scotchguard was that it made my sofa very slippery - reduced the friction. i kept sliding down

I'm not really into sheepskins. Had them in the early 80s and they just don't do it for me. They did not keep me cool in summer, though they were nice in the winter.

Also, I'm getting the heated seats to keep our butts warm in the cold NY winters, so I think any kind of seat cover will reduce the heaters effectiveness.

I'll have to search some more to see if there is anything else I can treat the seats with. Ooooh, maybe some of those clear vinyl sofa protectors that old people use, or maybe bubble wrap and I'll get massaged by stress relieving air pockets each time I sit down ;-)

I've used the ScotchGuard on my charcoal cloth seats. Works fine and doesn't change the texture, etc. Just make sure you let it dry well before utilizing the seats. I also use it on the interior door panel trim You just need to make sure that you wipe off the non-cloth trim after applying.
I used the ScothGuard carpet guard (in a blue can) on the mats and carpet.
I had a '96 Integra GSR with tan cloth interior that I scotch guarded several years ago and just prior to trading the vehicle in on a C230 some grease from a restuarant takeout package spilled on the front passenger bucket seat. I removed it with a little dish detergent and warm water with no stain whatsoever. Worked great. I removed chocolate some time back on this same vehicle too.
Keep in mind with ScotchGard you need to reapply every year or so.
