Not a big problem with my new C230 but . . .

. . . just an FYI. Last night driving home I noticed a hairline crack in the left steering wheel button system. I had not noticed it during the day because it is only apparent when the backlighting is on.

Not a big issue, but cosmetically it is quite distracting.

Best regards,

CP

The same thing happened to me. My dealer ordered the part and replaced it. I do think mine occured due to pre-changer use though... I was hitting that button constantly trying to find good music to listen to. Congratulations on your new car!

The same thing is wrong with mine, but on the right side button. I didn't notice it until a few days after I had picked it up, but I think it must have come from the dealer like that. Did they fix your's under waranty? I am still thinking about having them take a look at it.

Update . . .

Well, I am quite impressed with my local service. I called this morning and told them of the problem. The told me they would call the parts department and find out how long it will take to get the part. 10 minutes later, I get a call back that they can get the part tomorrow and can schedule me in the next morning (Friday) at 8 AM with a loaner car waiting.

Makes for a nice experience.

Best regards,

CP

Well, I don't have any cracks in the steering wheel buttons, but the left one has lost that distinct "click"-feel. Maybe I have used it too much, but I thought those buttons where made for using. Worse is, that sometimes when I drive on uneven surfaces, it "rattles".

Can this be fixed without changing the entire steering wheel?

My left one has done the same thing. The feeling isn't there just kinda pushes in.

I have exactly same fine line cracks on my left buttons (upper one and lower one).

I told my dealer and they will fix it tomorrow.
we will see what happen.

BTW, they said they order both left and right side buttons just in case.

They offer me a loaner car to me too, but I said "No, thanks" it will only take 20 min. I don't want to leave my car in their lot. haha

As previously posted, fixed under warranty as well, and no need for a loaner, it's a simple fix.

Interesting, on my C240, the left buttons in general don't "click" as distinctly as the ones on the right. In colder weather, there's no real "click" at all -- they just push.

Had the same thing happen to mine two weeks after I got the car, dealer ordered parts which had to come from Germany. Parts came in went to get it fixed - Mech opens up box and.... wrong color! I'm not too happy. Reorder parts, dealer checks color before calling me stop in and it's a 15 minute fix
go to the front of the line and out of there.

I found that the crack got worse pretty rapidly - first time I noticed it was also at night when the backlighting is on. The entire "block of switches" is a one piece unit that the dealer swaps out - so no the steering wheel doesn't get changed.

At one point I contemplated telling the dealer to put the charcoal swithes on the Oyster wheel so that I could have a two tone look, kinda like what Tommy has on a much smaller scale :p
